Group B Streptococcus infection is a pathogen that may infect newborns and pregnant women. Pregnant women need to be tested to eliminate Group B Streptococcus infection 35-37 weeks before delivery. This type of bacteria can cause urethritis and vaginitis, so here are the test values for group B streptococcal infection. Group B Streptococcus resides in the vagina and duodenum for a long time. Thirty percent of women have Group B Streptococcus in their vagina, and Group B Streptococcus can also be found in the bodies of healthy women. Generally, the impact is not great. However, if a pregnant woman has Group B Streptococcus, the fetus may be infected through the vagina during delivery. Therefore, it is very necessary to do a group B streptococcal infection test. If the test result is positive, it means that the human body is infected with group B streptococcus. If a pregnant woman is found to have group B streptococcal infection, antibiotic treatment should be given immediately to prevent infection of the newborn. The group B streptococcal infection test is done around 35-37 weeks of pregnancy in preparation for delivery. Some pregnant women may need to have a caesarean section, but they still need to do this test. Although group B streptococcal infection is vertically transmitted, caesarean section cannot prevent the newborn from being infected with group B streptococcal infection. If the pregnant woman does not undergo a group B streptococcal infection test before delivery, then the situation of the newborn infected with group B streptococcal infection cannot be properly handled after delivery, which will cause great harm to the newborn and must be taken seriously by the pregnant woman and her family. Group B Streptococcus infection can be found in the vagina of healthy women and does not pose much risk to carriers. The normal standard value for pregnant women infected with group B streptococcus should be less than 500 IU/mL. However, if a pregnant woman tests positive for group B streptococcal infection in the late pregnancy, there is a risk of infecting the newborn and needs to be treated with antibiotics. After 2-3 weeks of treatment, it can basically be cured. If not treated, the baby may be infected with Group B Streptococcus during delivery from the mother's vagina. |
