Is it difficult for women with uterine fibroids to get pregnant?

Uterine fibroids are a disease of the female reproductive organs and a gynecological disease, but they are a benign tumor and a very common tumor in the human body. Some people also call them fibroids or uterine fibroids. Nowadays, many people suffer from this disease, and many women worry that uterine fibroids will lead to infertility. Now, let’s take a look at whether uterine fibroids will lead to infertility.

Usually, the uterine fibroids we refer to are uterine smooth muscle fibroids.

Uterine fibroids

Tumor is a common benign tumor in the female reproductive organs. [1]

Depending on the location of growth, they can be divided into subserosal fibroids, intramural fibroids, submucosal fibroids or cervical fibroids, broad ligament fibroids, etc. Different types of uterine fibroids can show clinical manifestations such as menorrhagia, lower abdominal mass, or difficulty urinating or defecation. [2]

The age of onset is usually 35 years old among women, and about 20% of them suffer from uterine fibroids. However, because the tumor develops slowly and there are no clinical symptoms, in some cases, the disease is accidentally discovered during a physical examination, so most people do not receive earlier treatment or even no treatment. The postoperative recurrence rate is generally between 20% and 30%. The recurrence rate is related to the length of postoperative follow-up. The longer the follow-up time, the higher the recurrence rate. It is also related to the examination method used. Tedele (1995) used vaginal ultrasound for follow-up after uterine myomectomy and found that the cumulative recurrence rate increased year by year in 5 years, reaching 51% in 5 years. The postoperative recurrence rate of multiple uterine fibroids is higher than that of single fibroids. In addition, the literature reports that the recurrence rate of women who have had pregnancy and childbirth after myomectomy (15%) is lower than that of those who have not been pregnant (30%) after surgery.

The above is an analysis of whether uterine fibroids will lead to fertility problems. Women should pay attention to regular gynecological checkups so that they can find out about any diseases early and treat them early. Patients with uterine fibroids should pay attention to contraception, because abortion is extremely harmful to the body, especially for patients with uterine fibroids.
