Vaginal candidiasis is a common vulvovaginal inflammation caused by Candida albicans, formerly known as Candida vaginitis. Vulvar itching and a lot of white, bean curd-like leucorrhea are the main symptoms of this disease. It may be accompanied by a burning sensation in the vulva, urinary urgency, dysuria, and pain during sexual intercourse. When the symptoms are severe, the patient will be restless and suffer extreme pain.

Signs

Examination revealed swelling of the vulva, exfoliation of the epidermis, and possible scratches. There is a white film-like substance attached to the inner side of the labia minora and the vaginal mucosa. After wiping it off, redness, swelling or erosion of the vaginal mucosa and superficial ulcers can be seen. Typical leucorrhea is white, clot-like, and okara-like, with a slightly foul odor.

1. Commonly used external treatments:

(1) Use 2% soda water to rinse the vagina and vulva once a day. 10 times is a course of treatment. Generally, the medicine should be placed in the vagina after the vaginal flushing.

(2) Nystatin powder, tablets, suppositories, or ointments are inserted into the vagina or applied to the genitals, 100,000 to 200,000 units each time, once a day, for 10 to 14 days as a course of treatment

(3) 500 mg of clotrimazole suppository is inserted into the vagina 3 to 4 times a day for 2 weeks. (4) 1% gentian violet aqueous solution is applied to the vagina and vulva 3 to 4 times a week for 2 weeks.

(II) Vulvovaginal candidiasis is mainly treated with local medication, and imidazole antifungal drugs are more effective than nystatin. After treatment with imidazole antifungal drugs, 80%-90% of patients have disappeared and Candida culture is negative.

1.3% sodium bicarbonate solution to flush the vulva and vagina or 1:5000 gentian violet solution to infuse the vagina 1-2 times a day.

2. Nystatin suppositories or imidazole antifungal suppositories, such as clotrimazole, miconazole, econazole, butoconazole, one suppository per night, inserted deep into the vagina for 1-2 weeks.

3. For vulvitis, imidazole antifungal preparations can be applied externally, such as clotrimazole cream, miconazole cream, econazole cream, ketoconazole cream or bifonazole cream.

4. If the above treatment methods are ineffective, the following drugs can be taken orally: ① Ketoconazole, 400 mg per day for 5 days; ② Fluconazole 150 mg single dose orally once; ③ Itraconazole 200 mg, twice a day (one-day therapy) or 200 mg once a day for 3 consecutive days.
