What are the non-surgical treatments for uterine fibroids? Uterine fibroids are an extremely common problem that plagues women. It seems that the vast majority of women have the problem of uterine fibroids. So what are the non-surgical treatments for uterine fibroids? To understand this problem, we must first understand the causes of uterine fibroids in women so that we can take appropriate treatment. What causes uterine fibroids? According to experts, the main causes of uterine fibroids in women include: unhealthy lifestyle, childbirth, unreasonable diet, unreasonable sexual life, and taking hormone drugs. When talking about tumors, people always think that they can only be cured by removing the tumor surgically. In fact, this is not the case. For example, uterine fibroids do not necessarily require surgical treatment. Uterine fibroids are a common and frequently occurring disease of the female reproductive system, with a prevalence rate of about 20% in women over 30 years old. Currently, the conventional methods for treating this disease mainly include: medication and surgical treatment, but both have their limitations. For example, uterine bleeding will recur after drug treatment is stopped, and drug-induced amenorrhea changes women's normal physiology; surgical treatment is traumatic and has contraindications, and hysterectomy can have great adverse effects on women, especially young women, physically and mentally. Uterine fibroids are benign tumors of smooth muscle origin. Their blood supply comes from the bilateral uterine arteries, whose branches form a rich vascular network in the pseudocapsule surrounding the fibroids and radially branch into the interior of the fibroids. As the fibroids grow, the blood vessels become thicker and more numerous. The above-mentioned blood supply characteristics of uterine fibroids can enable the embolic agent to enter the fibroid lesions with the blood flow without damaging normal uterine tissue. Through the MRI examination of the uterine myometrium after embolization of patients with fibroids, it was found that accurate bilateral uterine artery embolization would not cause infarction of normal uterine tissue. The establishment of abundant anastomotic branches and collateral circulation in the pelvis also ensures that normal uterine tissue is not affected. Therefore, uterine artery embolization is safe for the treatment of uterine fibroids. This method is suitable for women between 30 and before menopause, especially those who are severely obese, diabetic, hypertensive and other patients who are not suitable for surgery, such as those with a clear diagnosis of uterine fibroids, excessive menstrual bleeding and obvious symptoms of space-occupying compression, and those who have failed to respond to conservative treatment (such as drug therapy) and myomectomy or whose fibroids have recurred. In addition, among the three types of fibroids, submucosal fibroids, intramural fibroids and subserosal fibroids, the therapeutic effect of intramural fibroids is better. This method can also be used for patients who are indications for hysterectomy but refuse surgery and require to retain their uterus and fertility, or those who have special religious beliefs and cannot undergo blood transfusions or surgery. To sum up, uterine fibroids can actually be cured without surgery. Surgery causes too much trauma to the human body, especially for young women, it is an undesirable method. However, patients do not need to worry too much about uterine fibroids that have not yet greatly affected their health. |
