What causes pain in one breast?

Breast problems have been a common concern in recent years, because breast cancer has become one of the cancers with a higher incidence rate. Therefore, everyone, especially female friends, needs to pay more attention to and care for their breasts. If there are any abnormal symptoms, we must pay attention to them. For example, the common problem of pain in one breast requires us to do self-examination and detect and deal with problems as early as possible.

If there is sudden, persistent, and severe pain in the breast, accompanied by obvious tenderness, it is considered to be various acute infectious diseases of the breast; if there is local pulsating pain, it may be local suppuration. If the breast pain is paroxysmal, and often begins before menstruation or worsens during menstruation, and can be relieved or disappear after menstruation, it is considered to be premenstrual tension syndrome.

Check it yourself

1. Self-reflection in the mirror

Face the mirror, put your hands on your hips, and observe the shape of your breasts. Then, raise your arms above your head and carefully observe whether there are any changes in the shape and contour of the breasts on both sides, whether there are any abnormalities such as redness, swelling, rash, distended superficial veins, skin folds, orange peel-like changes, etc. Observe whether the nipples are on the same level, whether they are raised, retracted, or sunken, whether there is any secretion overflowing from the nipples, and whether the color of the areola has changed. Finally, lower your arms, put your hands on your hips, push your elbows back, tighten your chest muscles, and observe whether the breasts on both sides are equal and symmetrical.

2. Lying down to touch

Lie flat on your back with your right arm raised above your head and a small pillow placed under your right shoulder to flatten your right breast. Put the four fingers of your left hand together and use the palm of your fingertips to check for lumps or other changes in various parts of the breast.

Use the pads of your right three fingers (index finger, middle finger, and ring finger) to slowly, steadily, and carefully touch the breasts. Check the left breast by gradually moving forward or backward, starting from the outside of the breast and moving at least three times until you reach the nipple. Inspection in an up-down or radial direction may also be used, but care should be taken not to miss any part. At the same time, check whether the axillary lymph nodes are swollen.

Therefore, to address the problem of breast pain in women, female friends can refer to the "self-viewing in the mirror method" and "lying down and touching method" introduced above to check themselves regularly to see if there is anything abnormal, especially when there is abnormal fluid oozing out when squeezing the nipple, it should attract our attention and go to a regular hospital for examination in time to nip various potential diseases in the bud.
