Seven diseases related to menstruation

Seven diseases related to menstruation

Mature women experience a series of mental, behavioral, and physical symptoms 7 to 14 days before their due menstruation (i.e. during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle), which disappear quickly after the onset of menstruation. Because the mental and emotional disorders of this disease are more prominent, it was previously named "premenstrual tension disorder" or "premenstrual tension syndrome". In recent years, it is believed that the symptoms of this disease are widespread. In addition to psychoneurological symptoms, it also involves several unrelated organs and systems, including a variety of organic and functional symptoms, so it is collectively called "premenstrual syndrome." In addition, there are some diseases that are closely related to the female menstrual cycle and should be given high attention.

Menstrual arthritis

Some lesbians may experience joint pain during menstruation, especially knee pain, which may be accompanied by mild swelling and deep tenderness in the joints, and worsen when walking (especially going down stairs). Some scholars believe that during menstruation, changes in hormone secretion in the body cause disorders in water and salt metabolism. When too much water and salt accumulate in the body, symptoms such as swollen and painful joints, abdominal distension, and breast pain may occur.

Menstrual rash

Some women develop millet-sized herpes around the lips or wings of the nose before and after menstruation without any other cause, with a burning and itching sensation, or polymorphic rashes such as papules, erythema, and blisters on the chest, back, limbs, etc. These rashes are clearly related to the menstrual cycle. The cause may be an allergic reaction caused by increased progesterone secretion from the ovaries, so it is an allergic skin disease.

Menstrual toothache

Some adolescent girls may experience toothache before and after menstruation, but most of the attacks are transient. Some women also experience symptoms such as gingival congestion, redness, swelling and spontaneous bleeding. This is mostly due to the increase in estrogen concentration in the body during menstruation, which stimulates the increase in gingival hormone concentration, stimulates special receptors in the gums, causes the blood vessels in the dental pulp and periodontal membrane to dilate and swell, and then compresses local nerves. Generally, after the menstruation is over, the swelling of the gums is relieved and the toothache disappears.

Menstrual asthma: A small number of young women have weak constitutions and menstrual disorders. When their menstruation comes, it often causes excessive excitement of the vagus nerve, resulting in large amounts of secretion of acetylcholine, which promotes spasm of bronchial smooth muscles and causes asthma attacks.

Catamenial pneumothorax

A small number of women may suddenly experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, or even difficulty breathing and cyanosis of the lips during menstruation. Its characteristics are that the patient age is between 24 and 40 years old; the chest lesions are mostly in the right chest cavity; the onset time is often between 72 hours before and 72 hours after menstruation, and the disease does not occur during the non-menstrual period.

Menstrual Psychosis

Most of them occur during adolescence, usually with precursors such as insomnia, dizziness, sweating, dry mouth, cold hands and feet, and poor appetite before menstruation. Some young girls also have sudden attacks, characterized by abnormal demeanor, fanatical excitement, irritability and talkativeness, and then crying, panic, restlessness or sluggishness, hallucinations, refusal to eat and drowsiness. Their symptoms are similar to those of mental patients and last for about a week. No special treatment is needed, and the attacks stop after the menstrual period and return to normal.

Menstrual angina

Some women experience angina due to changes in their menstrual cycle. The Journal of the American Medical Association once introduced a typical case of this type: a middle-aged woman had suffered from angina pectoris for five consecutive years. Despite multiple examinations, she still had no clear diagnosis. It was not until she reviewed her medical history after a severe attack that she realized that each angina attack almost occurred 2-3 days before her menstrual period. After follow-up observation by a doctor, it was confirmed that she had "menstrual-related angina pectoris."

Qi and blood imbalance is the most common pathogenesis of gynecological diseases

Women are based on blood, and blood depends on qi for circulation. Any damage to the blood will inevitably affect the qi; any damage to the qi will inevitably affect the blood. Therefore, the method of regulating qi and blood, if the disease is in the qi, should focus on treating the qi, supplemented by products that replenish and regulate the qi. Most menstrual syndromes are caused by depression, poor emotions, liver failure, poor qi movement, poor blood circulation, and qi and blood stasis. The peach blossom, safflower, angelica, Chuanxiong, Rehmannia root, and white peony root in Xuefu Zhuyu Capsule nourish blood and promote blood circulation; bupleurum and fructus aurantii soothe the liver and regulate qi; platycodon and rhizoma cyrtonema rise and fall respectively, regulating qi and dredging liver qi. All the medicines are used together to achieve the effects of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, soothing the liver and regulating qi, and promoting qi and relieving pain.
