Can I eat motherwort if my period is delayed?

Women, as a group in this society, always seem to be defined by the label of being vulnerable. In fact, this is not without reason. Women’s weakness is not only reflected in physical strength, but more often in physical health. Compared to men of the same age, women appear several years older. Therefore, women must be responsible for their bodies and take good care of themselves.

Menstruation is something that every young and mature woman experiences every month. If proper care is taken during this period, women will live a more carefree life. Many women are troubled by delayed menstruation. So, can eating motherwort improve this situation?

Motherwort, also known as: Leonurus, Leonurus, Kuncao, is the whole herb of Leonurus, a plant of the Lamiaceae family and the genus Leonurus. It blooms in summer. Its dried aerial parts are commonly used in Chinese medicine. They are produced in most parts of China and are used raw or in the form of paste. It is an annual or biennial herb distributed in most parts of the country, growing in mountains, wastelands, ridges, grasslands, etc.

The whole plant of Motherwort is used as medicine. The active ingredient is Leonuri. Oral administration can dilate blood vessels and lower blood pressure. It also has an antagonistic effect on adrenaline, and can treat arteriosclerotic and neurotic hypertension. It can also increase the frequency of uterine movement. It is a drug that promotes uterine contraction after childbirth, and is effective for those who are weak due to long-term uterine bleeding. Therefore, it is widely used to treat women with amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, excessive postpartum bleeding, retained lochia, incomplete postpartum uterine contraction, fetal movement disorder, uterine prolapse, and red and white vaginal discharge. According to domestic reports, in recent years, motherwort is effective in treating nephritis edema, hematuria, bloody stool, swollen and painful gums, mastitis, erysipelas, carbuncles and furuncles. The young shoots are called Motherwort when used as medicine. They have the same functions as Motherwort and can also replenish blood. Flowers can cure anemia and physical weakness. The seeds are called Cnidium monnieri, triangular sesame, and small sesame. They have diuretic and eye disease treatment effects and can also be used to treat nephritis edema and uterine prolapse.

From the above, we can see that motherwort does have a certain effect on women's menstrual disorders. However, motherwort is a medicinal ingredient after all, and all medicines are toxic, so it should not be taken blindly. Moreover, irregular menstruation is a major issue for women, so it is best to go to the hospital for medical treatment.
