Pregnant women have a higher glucose tolerance for two hours

Many pregnant friends often confuse glucose screening and glucose tolerance test, thinking that they are actually the same test. In fact, glucose screening and glucose tolerance are both items in the blood sugar level of pregnant women during prenatal check-ups, and the glucose tolerance test is a further test required when there are doubts in the glucose screening test. It is used to diagnose whether the pregnant woman suffers from gestational hyperglycemia. What is the reason if the pregnant woman's glucose tolerance is high after two hours?

Why is it that pregnant women’s glucose tolerance for 2 hours is high?

For pregnant women with normal blood sugar in the early stage of pregnancy, it is recommended to conduct a 75g reliable glucose tolerance test at 24-28 weeks of pregnancy to test blood sugar levels on an empty stomach and 1 hour and 2 hours after drinking sugar. If any one of the three items reaches or exceeds the specified value, that is, the blood sugar level and the blood sugar level 1 hour and 2 hours after taking sugar are respectively: 5.1mmol/L, 10.250mol/L, and 8.5mmol/L, then it can be diagnosed as gestational diabetes. If the glucose tolerance 2 hours is higher than 1 hour, there is no need to worry too much. This is also possible, indicating that the peak value of glucose tolerance has been delayed. As long as it is within the normal range, it is fine.

Glucose tolerance test process

First, you need your doctor to give you an order for the glucose tolerance test, and then go to the pharmacy to get the glucose. Usually, you pick it up in advance, take it back, and bring it back on the day of the glucose tolerance test.

You should start fasting after 10 pm the night before the glucose tolerance test until the test is completed.

On the morning of the glucose tolerance test, go to the hospital outpatient department on an empty stomach and go to the chemistry laboratory to draw the first blood.

Then mix the glucose powder with 300ml of warm water and drink it within five minutes.

The second blood draw was done one hour after drinking the red bean sugar water, and the third blood draw was done one hour later.

After having your blood drawn three times, you can eat and wait to receive the test results.

High blood sugar in pregnant women can cause abnormal development of the fetus, increase the chance of miscarriage and premature birth during pregnancy, and may also cause macrosomia, making delivery difficult for pregnant women, leading to dystocia and even serious harm to personal safety. Therefore, during pregnancy, glucose screening and glucose tolerance tests must be carried out. If pregnant women are found to have high blood sugar, they must control the condition well to ensure the safety of the pregnancy.
