Can pregnant women use medical alcohol for disinfection?

Pregnant women are a relatively unique group of people. There are many things they need to pay attention to during pregnancy, especially their hygiene and health. They need to be more cautious. So how should they deal with some disinfection and sterilization issues during pregnancy? Ethanol is often used for disinfection and sterilization. Can pregnant women also use ethanol for disinfection and sterilization?

Alcohol is strictly prohibited during pregnancy. It is necessary basic common sense. If a pregnant woman wants to disinfect her hands or clean wounds during pregnancy, can she use ethanol? The answer is undoubtedly yes, but ethanol is irritating after all, so it is recommended to avoid it as much as possible.

Pharmaceutical ethanol is a more common disinfectant alcohol. Its main ingredient is alcohol. In daily life, some people generally use alcohol to clean wounds in order to achieve the purpose of sterilization and disinfection. It is important to note that the ethanol purchased from pharmacies has two concentrations: 75% and 95%, and the uses of these two concentrations of alcohol are different.

The main benefits of cleaning with alcohol are that it does not hurt your hands; it has little harm to the body (except for those containing alcohol); it is easy to evaporate and dry quickly; generally speaking, if alcohol is applied to the pregnant woman's skin, avoiding the abdominal area, a small amount of application will not cause any serious problems, but this depends on individual differences and is not completely certain. The best way is to recommend regular prenatal checkups and closely monitor the condition of the fetus in order to detect abnormalities in the test tube embryo at an early stage. In addition, excessive anxiety is not good for the growth of the test tube embryo, and pregnant women are advised to maintain a stable mood.

Can pregnant women use alcohol to cool down?

In addition to its disinfection and sterilization function, ethanol also has another function, which is to physically reduce fever. Some people will use ethanol to cool down their fevered hands, because ethanol is easy to evaporate and dry quickly. ethanol can soften blood vessels and bring a lot of heat when evaporating. Around 4 weeks of pregnancy, expectant mothers can use alcohol bath to help reduce fever. This method cools down quickly, and the body temperature usually drops quickly. If the temperature is not very high, the high volatility of ethanol can be used to achieve the purpose of cooling. The body absorbs very little and has little effect on the fetus. However, if the body temperature is high, you need to go to the hospital for treatment, and don't just reduce the fever physically and delay the condition.

Specific methods of cooling down with alcohol:

1. Take one part of 95% ethanol purchased from the pharmacy, add two parts of warm water, stir evenly and set aside; if it is 75% ethanol, add the same amount of warm water as ethanol, and you can also add ice cubes to enhance the cooling effect.

2. Use gauze or a small towel to wet the body of the pregnant woman, usually where there are more blood vessels, such as the neck, armpits, inner thighs, etc. The blood circulation in these areas is fast, the blood vessels are superficial, and it is easy to dissipate heat.

3. Apply in a certain order, from top to bottom, from left to right, using a patting method until the skin turns slightly red, paying attention to the heat insulation of the rubbed body parts. The movements should be fast, and 5-10 minutes each time is enough.

Note: When scrubbing, avoid the expectant mother's head, face, abdomen, soles of feet and chest area to avoid side effects. Although ethanol is more volatile than water, it may cause discomfort to expectant mothers with fever. Secondly, inhaling alcohol vapor or even absorbing ethanol through the skin is not good for the patient.
