How to tell if you have milk blockage

How to tell if you have milk blockage

The things that mothers worry about most are milk blockage, lumps, and mastitis. According to statistics, up to 78.29% of pregnant women experience milk blockage after giving birth. Mild blockage can be cleared by the baby's sucking, while more serious ones require seeking lactation advice from a lactation consultant or going to the hospital. If the milk is swollen and the milk is blocked and not discharged in time and adjusted, it will easily cause mastitis. How to correctly distinguish milk blockage from milk knots? What are the causes of milk blockage? How to clear it? How to judge whether you have milk blockage?

Milk knots and milk blockage

Milk lumps: The mammary glands are unobstructed, but the milk is not cleared away and accumulates in the breasts, forming small lumps. It hurts when pressed.

Milk blockage: The mammary glands are not functioning properly, and the milk is blocked deep down, causing deep lumps. The main manifestation is a sudden large lump in the breast. The swelling and pain are not severe at first, and some mothers do not have a fever.

Causes of milk blockage after childbirth

1. Improper diet is one of the common causes of milk blockage in pregnant women after giving birth. If you eat too much tonic or too much greasy food after giving birth, it is easy to cause milk blockage.

2. Excessive milk secretion. Many new mothers have too much milk and cannot discharge it in time, which leads to symptoms of milk blockage after giving birth.

3. The underwear is not suitable for pregnant women. They must choose suitable and comfortable underwear after giving birth. It is not only conducive to breastfeeding but also can protect the breasts of pregnant women. If the underwear worn by pregnant women is too tight and compresses the breasts, it is easy to cause milk blockage.

4. Mental factors. Blocked milk ducts after childbirth may be caused by the long-term bad mood of the pregnant woman. Pregnant women with bad mood and excessive psychological pressure after giving birth are also prone to blocked milk ducts after childbirth.

Transmission method

Milk knot

Heat: Applying heat will increase blood circulation to the painful area, thereby speeding up healing. Helps treat milk lumps.

Suction: Breastfeeding the baby immediately after conditioning and massage (it is best to let the baby suck more, the baby is the best manual breast pump) or using a breast pump to express milk will help relieve blockage.

Combing: While massaging and sucking the nipples, you can also use a comb. A heated comb is best. Combing from the armpit to the nipple position can unblock the tangled blood vessels.
