Causes and solutions for hair loss in girls

Having beautiful long hair may be the dream of every woman. Hair is not only an indispensable tissue of the body, but also for women, various hair styles can create different shapes and designs. However, not everyone can have perfectly beautiful hair, and hair loss is one of the biggest influencing factors. There are many reasons that can cause hair loss, and the reasons for hair loss in adults and children have been introduced in relative detail. The causes of hair loss in women are similar to the above two conditions, but they also have their own characteristics. For example, compared with men, hair loss in women rarely affects the forehead. Therefore, it is necessary to specifically introduce the common causes of hair loss among girls. This article will introduce the common causes of hair loss among women and the relatively simple solutions.

Hair growth cycle

Hair grows in hair follicles. Hair follicles are like factories that produce hair. Only healthy hair follicles can produce healthy hair. Hair grows and falls continuously with a regularity that can be divided into three stages: growth phase, retardation phase and resting phase.

Growth stage: The growth stage of hair, hair follicles are active, and hair grows at a rate of about 0.3mm/day (about 0.8-1cm/month);

Catagen phase: Hair follicles begin to decline and hair stops growing;

Telogen phase: Hair follicles decline, hair wrinkles, and hair falls out.

Normal hair loss

Every day when you comb your hair or get dressed, you will notice some hair loss, but there is no major change in your hair. This is because we all have new hair growth and hair loss. Generally speaking, it is normal for most people to grow and lose about 50 to 100 hairs a day. Therefore, there is no need to worry about normal hair loss. We don't lose hair because we lose hair every day. However, if the amount of hair loss exceeds the amount of new hair growth, then it will cause obvious hair loss symptoms.

Common causes of hair loss in girls

Generally speaking, there are about 30 reasons that can cause hair loss in girls, some of which are medicines, some are diseases, and some are problems with lifestyle habits. And the hair loss situation of each person is different. For example, medicines may not have the side effect of hair loss for some women, but for some women, a small amount of medicines may cause hair loss. Now we will only introduce the common causes of hair loss in women.

Thyroid disease

Thyroid gland belongs to the endocrine organ and is a very important gland in the body. In mammals it is located just below the thyroid cartilage in the neck, on both sides of the bronchi. The shape of human thyroid cyst is similar to that of a butterfly flower, just like a shield, hence the name. The key function of thyroid cysts is to produce thyroxine, which is one of the key growth hormones that regulate the body's functions. Generally speaking, high thyroid hormone can promote growth and development, promote protein synthesis and sugar absorption.

If thyroid cysts develop symptoms, it may affect the growth of the head, but hair loss is not the only symptom of thyroid disease. Therefore, if hair loss is caused by thyroid disease, it is generally relatively easy to diagnose.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease caused by complex endocrine and metabolic abnormalities in women of childbearing age. It is characterized by chronic anovulation (ovulation nerve dysfunction or loss) and hyperandrogenism (excess production of male hormones in the female body). The main clinical symptoms are irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, excessive hair growth and/or acne. It is the most common female endocrine disease.

PCOS can cause chronic hormone imbalance, which can cause women to have excessively high levels of male hormones. This will cause excess hair on the face and body, but fine hair will become scarce. PCOS can also cause complete hair loss, acne, and weight gain, but sometimes hair loss or thinning may be the only symptom.

Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata is a common disease that causes hair loss. The hair loss caused by alopecia areata is in small patches, mostly ring-shaped or quasi-ring-shaped, and the hair in the hair loss area is normal or slightly reddish. If alopecia areata worsens, it can cause all hair to fall out, including sweat hair and eyelashes, which is called alopecia areata. The causes of alopecia areata are very complex and the treatment is relatively difficult.

Androgenic Alopecia

In female androgenic alopecia, genetics and race may be the main factors, as well as changes in female hormones after menopause. Androgenic alopecia in women usually occurs on the head, and receding hairline is not common.

Tinea capitis

Tinea capitis used to occur more frequently, but now with the improvement of people's health and hygiene standards, tinea capitis is less common than before. It now mostly affects children and adolescents, and tinea capitis is relatively rare in adults. Hair loss caused by tinea capitis may be accompanied by itching, and sometimes scaling may occur on the surface, with residual hair remaining in the hair loss area.

Pregnant

Women may experience a lot of hair loss during pregnancy or after giving birth. The actual reason may be caused by female hormones. However, hair loss caused by pregnancy does not last long. After a period of time after giving birth, as female hormones gradually recover, the hair loss condition will gradually improve. Generally speaking, hair growth and recovery will return within 2 years.

drug

Some medications, especially birth control pills, may have the side effect of causing hair loss. If there is a family history of hair loss, such women are more likely to suffer from hair loss. Hair loss caused by drugs may not necessarily occur during the medication period, and may sometimes occur after stopping the medication. Common drugs that can cause hair loss include emergency contraception, antihypertensive drugs, heart disease drugs, bone and joint disease drugs and antidepressants.

Dieting to lose weight

Some women lose weight by dieting, but dieting can also cause hair loss. It is reported that if you lose more than 7kg, hair loss will occur in 3 to 6 months. But if you eat healthily, your hair will grow normally and your hair loss will improve. It is recommended that if you really want to lose weight by fasting, you must pay attention to the amount of vitamin D your body needs, and the phenomenon of hair loss may be less.

Extensional alopecia

Some women comb their hair too tightly, which can cause extension alopecia. If your hair is combed and tied too tightly, the continuous excessive support will cause the hair roots to loosen and cause hair loss. Changing the ponytail style can improve the condition of axial hair loss.

Cancer Treatment

Many cancer treatments can cause hair loss, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and more. The main reason is that while the cancer cells are being eliminated, the hair follicle cells are also damaged and destroyed, which leads to hair loss. The hair loss caused by this type of treatment is theoretically reversible, and the hair can usually grow back after the treatment is stopped. However, the objective reality may not be so. For some people, treatment cannot be stopped. Therefore, if the hair loss is caused by cancer treatment, you can consider wearing a wig.

Too much work pressure

Excessive work pressure can not only cause alopecia areata and hair loss, but also excessive work pressure itself can affect the growth of hair and cause hair loss. In addition, the body's obvious symptoms when it suffers from a serious illness can also cause hair loss. At this time, hair loss often occurs suddenly, with 1/2 to 3/4 of the hair falling out suddenly. This type of hair loss can last for 6 to 8 months. Conditions that cause significant stress reactions include the following:

Severe illness or surgery; trauma or excessive blood loss; severe psychological trauma.

Generally, the effect can be seen after 2 to 4 months of treatment.

Hair transplantation

For recurrent hair loss or permanent hair loss, hair transplantation can be considered. The hair on other parts of the human body is not the same as normal hair, so the origin is best from normal hair. A key side effect may be the possibility of scarring. In addition, the source may sometimes be difficult to find. For example, if all the hair falls out, it will be difficult to transplant hair.
