In life, some women believe that the symptoms of menstruation are a natural physiological condition. However, you may not know that sometimes it is also hinting that there is something wrong with your body and you should pay attention to it.

Most cases of sleepiness during menstruation are caused by spleen deficiency and dampness, insufficient qi and blood, or kidney essence deficiency. Generally, there are three situations:

Most of them are obese, often accompanied by edema, shortness of breath when moving, poor appetite, fullness and stuffiness in the stomach, and excessive leucorrhea that is sticky and thick. During menstruation, one feels mentally exhausted, the head feels heavy, the limbs feel heaviness, and one feels drowsy and sleepy. The tongue coating is white and greasy, and the pulse is soft and slow.

It is more common in women with weak bodies, with symptoms such as shortness of breath, laziness, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations and uneasiness. The menstrual volume is small, light in color and thin in texture. I feel drowsy during menstruation, especially after meals. The face is sallow, the tongue is pale with white coating, and the pulse is deep, thready and weak.

Sleepiness during menstruation caused by kidney essence deficiency

It is more common in women who have frequent abortions. The main clinical manifestations include fatigue, sleepiness, tinnitus, deafness, and dull expression during menstruation. I usually feel lack of energy and my waist and knees are weak. Menstruation is often delayed and the menstrual flow is less. The tongue is pale with white coating, and the pulse is deep, thready and weak.

For women who often feel weak and sleepy during menstruation, they should increase physical exercise, such as playing ball, jogging, etc., which can effectively alleviate the problem of sleepiness during menstruation. However, it is important to note that during menstruation, you should mainly engage in light exercise or no exercise to avoid increasing menstrual flow.

How to relieve menstrual sleepiness symptoms?

1. Simple acupoint massage:

Acupoint massage is effective for daytime lack of energy and drowsiness. It is a good way to relieve women’s symptoms of sleepiness during menstruation.

① Fengchi and Fengfu: Use finger kneading method. The technique should be balanced. Excessive stimulation is not needed. A light feeling of qi is better. It has the effect of refreshing the brain and opening the orifices. Fengchi: the depression where the skull and spine meet; Fengfu: 1 inch directly above the center of the back bun.

② Zusanli and Sanyinjiao: The technique is the same as above, but the intensity can be slightly greater, which has the effect of strengthening the spleen and removing dampness. Zusanli: 1 finger below the outside of the knee; Sanyinjiao: on the inside of the calf, 3 inches above the tip of the ankle.

2. Grasp the sleep pattern:

In order to relieve the tendency to sleep during menstruation, it is best to go to bed around 10 o'clock in the evening and avoid overwork to prevent damage to spleen yang, which will cause the yang to be weakened and aggravate the symptoms of sleepiness during menstruation.

3. Eat light and easily digestible food:

During menstruation, women can drink more yam porridge, barley porridge, etc., and avoid spicy, cold, greasy, indigestible food and frozen drinks, so as not to aggravate the symptoms of sleepiness during menstruation.

How to make yam porridge: Take 50 grams of raw yam and 50 grams of white rice; cut the yam into thin slices, add appropriate amount of white rice and water and cook into porridge. Eat it in the morning and evening. It has the effect of strengthening the spleen and stomach, and is best for treating menstrual sleepiness caused by insufficient spleen qi.

4. Strengthen physical exercise:

Exercises such as slow walking and Tai Chi can make the blood flow smoothly and replenish the body's yang energy, which is beneficial for auxiliary treatment of sleepiness and is very helpful in relieving sleepiness during menstruation.
