When does pregnancy start?

When does pregnancy start?

Pregnancy is a difficult and joyful experience. Pregnancy time refers to a complete reproductive cycle, that is, a complete cycle from pregnancy to delivery. However, pregnancy should be the time of fertilization of the egg, but in fact we have no way of knowing exactly when we got pregnant. So when does pregnancy begin?

1. When should the pregnancy time start to be calculated?

It is indeed difficult to calculate the duration of pregnancy, because the duration of pregnancy is calculated based on the woman's menstrual cycle and ovulation period. For women with normal menstrual cycles and normal ovulation periods, the calculation is usually based on the first day of the expected date of delivery. If calculated from the date of pregnancy, the number of weeks of pregnancy may be about half a month less than our calculation.

Although the estimated time of pregnancy is indeed the day when you actually start to get pregnant, most people will not start calculating the gestational age from that day, because you have no way to know exactly when you ovulated and became pregnant. Therefore, most doctors will choose a simpler method to calculate your gestational age - starting from the first day of your last menstrual period. I believe you won't make a mistake during this period.

2. How to calculate pregnancy time

Because every pregnant woman cannot accurately tell the time of pregnancy, medicine requires that the expected date of delivery be calculated from the first day of pregnancy. The total pregnancy period is 280 days, or 10 months. Pregnant women give birth between 38 and 42 weeks of pregnancy, all of which are full-term. Because each woman's menstrual cycle is different in length, it is normal for the estimated due date to differ from the actual due date by 1-2 weeks. The key calculation methods are as follows:

1. Calculate based on the expected date of delivery

Add 9 or subtract 3 from the month of the expected date of delivery to get the month of delivery; add 7 to the day of delivery to get the day of delivery. For example: The due date of pregnancy is March 13, 2008, and the estimated due date is December 20, 2008. Ms. Chen's due date was May 28, 2008, and her due date was approximately March 5, 2009. You can also calculate backwards from the first day of the due date to the 280th day, which is the due date.

2. Calculate based on the baby's fetal movement date

If you can't remember your due date, you can calculate it based on the baby's fetal movement time. Generally, fetal movement begins between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. The calculation method is: for primiparas, it is the day the baby moves plus 20 weeks; for multiparas, it is the day the baby moves plus 22 weeks.

3. Calculate based on the ovulation temperature curve

The last day of the ultra-low temperature section of the ovulation temperature curve is taken as the ovulation period, and the ovulation period is counted back 264-268 days from the ovulation period, or 38 weeks.

4. Calculate based on B-ultrasound examination

When doctors do B-ultrasound examinations, they can measure the biparietal diameter of the fetal head, the brachiocephalic diameter and the femur length to estimate the gestational age and calculate the date of delivery (this method is mostly used by doctors for B-ultrasound examinations to confirm the diagnosis).

5. Calculate from the time when morning sickness begins

Morning sickness usually occurs on the 6th week of pregnancy, which is 42 days after the expected date of delivery, and then counting backwards to 280 days is the due date.

The article explains in detail which day the pregnancy starts. From the introduction, we can understand that it is best for women to start counting from the first day of the last menstrual period until the pregnant woman gives birth to the baby. This is a complete pregnancy time. If you are a woman, you'd better know when your pregnancy starts. This is an important thing.
