Symptoms and treatment of uterine fibroids

Symptoms and treatment of uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids, also known as fibroids, are a common gynecological tumor. Many female friends do not have any symptoms or discomfort after developing uterine fibroids. They are only discovered during examinations. At this time, the uterine fibroids are not serious and will disappear on their own during menopause without treatment. So what symptoms will serious uterine fibroids have and how should they be treated?

Uterine fibroids symptoms:

(1) Increased menstrual volume and prolonged menstrual duration: When intramural fibroids or cervical fibroids appear, uterine fibroids will expand the uterine cavity, which will cause a series of chain reactions to increase the total area of the endometrium and poor contraction of the uterine wall, resulting in increased menstrual volume, continuous bleeding, and prolonged menstrual duration. If cervical fibroids are accompanied by necrosis and infection, non-menstrual bleeding and purulent bloody discharge may occur in the vagina. If the patient is in this state for a long time, it will cause symptoms such as anemia, fatigue, dizziness, and palpitations.

(2) Lower abdominal mass: When uterine fibroids gradually expand and the size of the uterus exceeds or is equal to that of a 3-month pregnancy, a hard mass will be felt when the abdomen is touched. The mass will become more obvious when the patient lies flat in the morning. Some patients may also have uterine fibroids prolapse outside the cervix or even inside the vagina.

(3) Abnormal vaginal discharge: When uterine fibroids appear, the secretion of the uterine wall will increase abnormally, and the pelvis will also become swollen, causing excessive vaginal discharge. If uterine fibroids are infected, there will be a lot of leucorrhea with a foul odor. This is often caused by necrosis of the uterine fibroids.

(4) Compression symptoms: If uterine fibroids grow on the anterior wall of the uterus, they will compress the patient's bladder, causing the patient to experience frequent urination and urgency, and difficulty holding urine. Symptoms include pain and discomfort in the lower abdomen, constipation, etc. ,

(5) Other symptoms: Common symptoms of patients with uterine fibroids include mild lower abdominal pain and discomfort, back pain, which may cause difficulty in pregnancy, infertility or miscarriage.

Uterine fibroids treatment:

Medication and surgery are the most common methods for treating uterine fibroids. So which method is the best? In reality, each treatment method has its own advantages. The choice of treatment method should be based on the patient's own condition. When the size of uterine fibroids is less than two centimeters, medication can be used for treatment. The medication options may include hormone therapy, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, etc. If the patient is approaching menopause and has menopausal conditions, there is no clinically effective treatment for the symptoms.

It only requires regular check-ups and observations, and no medication or surgery is needed for treatment. If the size of a uterine fibroid in a woman of childbearing age is larger than 5 cm, surgical removal should be considered. Some patients with rapidly growing uterine fibroids and those with uterine fibroids that protrude into the abdomen and tend to twist also need surgical removal.

Of course, the patient's physical condition and symptoms should also be taken into consideration when undergoing surgery. If the patient's daily life is seriously affected, then surgery should be performed as soon as possible. Especially for some female friends of childbearing age, they must make a good choice of treatment method to avoid affecting fertility. Going to a reliable hospital for treatment is also a wise choice.
