Characteristics of Candida vaginitis

Characteristics of Candida vaginitis

Patients with Candida vaginitis generally experience vulvar itching, abdominal pain, and abnormal pain, as well as symptoms of frequent urination and urgency. It is contagious. Women at this time should not have sexual intercourse, and should undergo vaginal treatment in a timely manner. They also need to pay attention to vaginal hygiene issues. Candida vaginitis can cause varying degrees of edema and erythema, and can also lead to symptoms of increased vaginal discharge. You can learn more about it.

Symptoms of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis

The main symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis are vulvar itching and burning pain. In severe cases, the patient will feel restless and extremely painful, and is often accompanied by frequent urination, urgency and pain during sexual intercourse. Specific symptoms are:

1. In the acute phase, the amount of leucorrhea increases, and the leucorrhea is characterized by being white, thick, and resembling curd or bean dregs. If there is vulvitis, clearly defined erythema can be seen on the vulva, and small satellite lesions can be seen around the large erythema. Sometimes scratches on the vulva or cracks on the vulva skin can be seen. There is also a yellowish-white discharge that is odorless. Symptoms are worse in a warm environment, such as in bed, when air circulation is restricted, or when people wear tight clothing or synthetic fabrics.

2. The vaginal mucosa can be seen with varying degrees of edema and erythema, which can extend to the external os of the cervix. Vaginal secretions often adhere to the vaginal wall in lumps. When the lumps of secretions are wiped off, the red and swollen mucosal surface is exposed. In the acute phase, damaged erosive surfaces and superficial ulcers can be seen under the white lumps.

3. Sometimes there are small nodules and blisters at the edge of inflammation. If a large area of surrounding tissue is affected, dry and scaly patches with clear edges can be seen in the infected area (eczematous changes). There are often scratches on lacerations and ulcers.

4. The severity of symptoms depends on the genus and strain of the infecting bacteria and the patient's susceptibility. Mild symptoms may only cause mild itching without other clinical symptoms. Candida vulvovaginitis differs from other bacterial infections in that the yeast does not ascend along the endocervical canal and therefore does not cause the secondary pathologies associated with Candida migration.

5. Candida infection often occurs in the late luteal phase of the ovulation cycle, that is, within 1 week before menstruation.

6. The clinical characteristics of vulvovaginal candidiasis during pregnancy are particularly excessive vaginal discharge. Almost all cases have severe vulvar itching, often accompanied by a burning sensation of the vulva, and even vaginal pain and irritation. The typical discharge is cheese-like. The labia minora are often edematous and erythematous, the vagina is obviously congested and often covered with a white membrane. When the white membrane is peeled off, the red and swollen mucosal surface can be exposed. In the acute phase, erosions or superficial ulcers may be seen.

7. There is no difference in the pathogens and characteristics of pathogens between asymptomatic vaginal parasites and symptomatic vulvovaginitis. Because Candida species are often found only as spores and rarely as hyphae in the asymptomatic vagina, the diagnosis of Candida vulvovaginitis can be made by finding both spores and hyphae in the secretions of symptomatic patients.
