Causes of myocardial ischemia in women

Myocardial ischemia in women refers to a condition in which blood perfusion is reduced. The reduced blood flow will lead to insufficient oxygen supply to the heart, resulting in abnormal myocardial metabolism and decreased heart rate, requiring the patient to use a cardiac pacemaker to assist the heart beat. Myocardial ischemia in women is generally caused by coronary heart disease and coronary atherosclerosis, and myocardial ischemia mainly occurs in the elderly, so women need to pay attention to protecting their heart function.

Causes of myocardial ischemia in women

Myocardial ischemia refers to a decrease in blood perfusion to the heart, which causes a lack of oxygen to the heart, preventing the myocardium from metabolizing normally and causing the heart to fail to function normally. As we all know, the heart is an important organ of ours and is indispensable for maintaining normal life. If the heart cannot work normally, it will affect our daily life at the very least, and may even cause our death at the worst. Next, let’s explore the causes of myocardial ischemia.

The main and most common cause of myocardial ischemia is coronary artery stenosis. The main cause of coronary artery stenosis is atherosclerosis. The heart disease caused by coronary atherosclerosis is commonly known as coronary heart disease. Therefore, coronary heart disease is the "culprit" of myocardial ischemia.

Secondly, there are many other diseases, such as inflammation (rheumatic, syphilitic, Kawasaki disease and thromboangiitis obliterans, etc.), spasm, embolism, connective tissue diseases, trauma and congenital malformations. Epidemiological studies have found that important risk factors associated with atherosclerosis are hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, obesity, elevated homocysteine, lack of physical activity, advanced age, and male gender.

Types of myocardial ischemia

1. Asymptomatic myocardial ischemia refers to the absence of clinical symptoms, but there are objective evidence of myocardial ischemia such as typical ischemic ST segment changes on the electrocardiogram and decreased myocardial blood perfusion. It can occur in different types of angina pectoris and may suddenly turn into myocardial infarction, or gradually evolve into cardiomyopathy, heart failure, arrhythmia and even sudden death.

2. Angina pectoris type Angina pectoris type is mainly caused by insufficient blood supply to the coronary arteries, acute and temporary myocardial ischemia and hypoxia. Patients may experience squeezing pain in the chest when they are tired, cold, emotionally excited, etc., which radiates to the left upper limb and lasts for several minutes. The pain disappears after rest or sublingual nitroglycerin administration.

3. Myocardial infarction Myocardial infarction is a condition in which the blood supply to the coronary arteries is drastically reduced or interrupted on the basis of coronary artery disease, causing severe and persistent acute ischemia of the corresponding myocardium and acute necrosis of part of the myocardium.

What are the causes of myocardial ischemia? The most common cause of myocardial ischemia in daily life is coronary heart disease, followed by rheumatic heart disease, arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, etc. According to the various types of myocardial ischemia caused by different reasons, professional therapies should be selected to treat myocardial ischemia. However, in addition to the correct treatment method, the care of myocardial ischemia should be properly treated in daily life. Different causes require different care methods. Only by providing good care measures can the recovery of myocardial ischemia be facilitated.
