Are there risks in doing angiography?

Angiography is an increasingly commonly used examination method in today's clinical medicine. Through angiography, the health status of relevant parts of the human body can be well determined. For example, the commonly used hysterosalpingography can detect health problems in women's fallopian tubes. However, many people have certain doubts about the safety of angiography. So, are there any risks in doing angiography?

1. Are there any risks in doing angiography?

Radiographic examination is a relatively mature examination method with low risks. However, comprehensive comparison is still necessary when performing radiographic surgery. When performing angiography, contrast agent needs to be injected, which contains iodine, so an iodine allergy test should be performed before the angiography. Angiography and surgery may cause certain harm to people who are allergic to iodine or have impaired renal function. Drink more water after the angiography surgery to promote the metabolism of the contrast agent.

2. Side effects of contrast examination

1. Hysterosalpingography is a procedure in which contrast agents are injected into the uterus and fallopian tubes and monitored under the fluoroscopy of an X-ray machine. This will cause the body to absorb some of the X-rays. However, the damage caused by transient X-ray exposure is mild and reversible. When undergoing routine X-ray examinations, be sure to pay attention to protection, but there is no need to be afraid.

2. X-ray hysterosalpingography uses iodine contrast agent. 40% iodized oil has high density and good imaging effect, but it is very irritating and can cause severe abdominal pain after surgery. It can sometimes cause chemical peritonitis. The examination time is long, the absorption is slow, and it can easily cause foreign body reaction and form granulomas. If a large amount enters the vein, there is a risk of causing oil embolism.

3. When is the best time to do angiography?

The best time to do hysterosalpingography is on the 3rd to 7th day after the menstrual period ends, because at this time the female's endometrial environment is most suitable for examination and the test results will be more accurate. If the salpingography is performed too early, it is easy to cause infection. This is because there is a wound on the female endometrium, and iodized oil as a contrast agent used in the examination can cause infection. If it is done too late and the endometrium has proliferated and thickened, the pressure during the examination may push the thickened endometrium to the entrance of the fallopian tube and cause a misdiagnosis of blockage, affecting the results of the examination and easily causing bleeding.
