Does it hurt to put on a pessary?

A pessary is a very common medical device for treating uterine prolapse in women. When this auxiliary device is inserted into the body of women, patients will feel very scared and are always worried that it will be painful during the insertion. In fact, the act of inserting a pessary will not cause great harm to the patient. It can be easily inserted into the vagina, thus playing a therapeutic role.

A pessary is a medical device used to treat uterine prolapse in women. It is made of polyethylene and silicone rubber materials, which are non-toxic and non-irritating to human tissue. The diameters of the ring supports are respectively. 51, 57, 64, 70, 76MM (referring to the outer diameter), five different specifications. Ring splints are used for general patients with uterine prolapse.

Before using a pessary for treatment, you should go to the hospital's obstetrics and gynecology department for a check-up to rule out contraindications to the pessary, and the doctor will give advice based on the specific circumstances of each patient. Which specifications of pessary should you choose? Learn to put it on by yourself. Ring-type pessary method: Wash your hands, lie flat on the bed, bend and spread your legs, and push the prolapsed uterus into the vagina first. Use one hand to separate the labia majora and minora, and with the other hand, slowly push the pessary into the vagina in an oblique position, gradually lay the pessary flat, and slowly push the rear end of the ring to the posterior fornix of the vagina, and finally push the front end upward so that the front end of the pessary is stuck on the inner side of the pubic arch.

After the pessary is in place, the patient should stand up or squat and apply force to increase abdominal pressure to test whether the pessary will fall out. If it falls out, it means that the pessary you chose is too small. You should change it for a larger one and put it on again according to the above method until the pessary no longer falls out and there is no feeling of pressure. Then it is suitable. You should learn to remove the pessary by yourself: you can take a squatting or side-sitting position when removing the pessary. When removing the ring tray, insert your index and middle fingers into the vagina, then hook the front end of the tray with your index finger, insert it steadily into the vagina, and then remove it gently and steadily.

This tray is not suitable for high temperature sterilization, because high temperature can cause the plastic tray to deform. Before each use, wash the tray clean, soak it in 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution for 15 minutes, then rinse it with warm water and it is ready for use. You should insist on putting on the crampon when you get up every day, and taking it off before going to bed at night (in winter, you can take it out and wash it every two days, and put it back on the next morning). You must defecate and urinate before putting it on.

Stop using during menstruation or after three months of pregnancy. During the use of pessary therapy, you should go to the hospital for a check-up every one month, three months, and six months. If the degree of uterine prolapse becomes lighter, you must replace it with a smaller pessary in time. This product must be replaced two years after initial use to prevent deterioration.
