Precautions during early pregnancy

Precautions during early pregnancy

The early stages of pregnancy are more dangerous than other periods of pregnancy, so pregnant women also need to pay attention to many things in the early stages of pregnancy. Because the fetus is in a gradually stable state in the early stages of pregnancy, if there is too much fluctuation at this time, it may easily damage the baby and cause threatened miscarriage. At the same time, early pregnancy is also a high-risk stage for deformities, so what are the precautions in early pregnancy?

What should you pay attention to in the early stages of pregnancy? The following are some points to note for pregnant women:

1. Sexual life should be moderate

Having sex is a normal part of married life for couples. But when the wife is pregnant, how to have sex is something that should be taken seriously. To ensure the health of the fetus, sexual intercourse should be avoided during the first three months of pregnancy.

2. Seek medical attention in these cases

For pregnant women, the most dangerous things in the early stages of pregnancy are ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage. When these two situations occur, pregnant women will experience abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. Therefore, if pregnant women find abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding, they need to seek medical attention immediately.

3. Supplement folic acid to prevent fetal malformations

The first three months of pregnancy are the critical period for the development of the fetal neural tube. Therefore, expectant mothers should try to avoid various adverse factors, such as smoking and drinking environments, harmful chemicals, newly renovated houses, poorly ventilated environments, etc., and improve their immunity to avoid viral infections, and do not take drugs privately.

In order to prevent fetal malformations, pregnant women need to supplement folic acid starting from the early stages of pregnancy (preferably from the beginning of pregnancy planning). Foods rich in folic acid include red amaranth, spinach, lettuce, asparagus, beans, yeast, animal liver, apples, citrus fruits, etc.

4. Initial prenatal checkup

After the pregnancy is confirmed, the expectant mother needs to go to the street hospital for the first prenatal check-up at 12 weeks of pregnancy and establish a health care handbook for pregnant women. Future prenatal examinations can be conducted in a secondary hospital or the hospital where you decide to give birth.

5. Prenatal diagnosis

Prenatal diagnosis can exclude some major abnormalities and can be done as early as 8 weeks of gestation. Currently, the most commonly used chromosome testing methods are chorionic villus sampling and peripheral blood screening. If necessary, amniocentesis can be performed at 16-20 weeks of pregnancy for further diagnosis.

6. Don’t take supplements without authorization

In the early stages of pregnancy, morning sickness symptoms may affect the expectant mother's appetite to a certain extent. In terms of diet, it is generally not recommended to take a lot of nutritional supplements. It should be based on your own preferences and eat whatever you want. Pregnant women who vomit a lot should pay attention to eating light and easily digestible foods. Once you enter the second trimester and the morning sickness disappears, it will be time to replenish your nutrition.

You cannot eat hot foods during pregnancy, such as dog meat, mutton, pepper, etc. When taking supplements during pregnancy, you should follow the principle of "coolness is better and heat is avoided". Even when eating fruits, you should eat those with neutral and cool nature, such as tomatoes, raw pears, peaches, etc.

7. Beware of radiation

In daily life, it is difficult for us to say exactly which radiation will affect the fetus. Therefore, experts still recommend that pregnant women wear anti-radiation clothing, stay away from the TV, walk away when the microwave is in use, and do not hang the mobile phone on the chest.

8. Take breaks

In the early stages of pregnancy, expectant mothers are prone to fatigue and therefore need adequate rest. Excessive fatigue can easily cause miscarriage in pregnant women, especially those who are older, have a history of miscarriage, or suffer from certain chronic diseases. They need to pay special attention to rest. In the early stages of pregnancy, you should avoid excessive fatigue, strenuous exercise, and emotional excitement, and try to maintain a good mental state.

9. Deal with morning sickness calmly

About half of pregnant women will experience varying degrees of nausea and morning vomiting around 6 weeks of pregnancy, which is mainly related to the increase in the level of human chorionic gonadotropin in the blood of pregnant women. If the nausea and vomiting are not severe and the pregnant woman can tolerate them, no special treatment is required and they are normal physiological phenomena. Just keep a normal mind, get enough sleep, eat small meals frequently, and choose light, easily digestible foods that you like.

If the pregnant woman's reaction is more serious, with persistent vomiting, and even inability to eat or drink, she must go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment to see if it is hyperemesis gravidarum. Hyperemesis gravidarum can easily cause electrolyte imbalance in pregnant women, which is life-threatening and requires intravenous treatment, so it cannot be ignored.
