Many young women are afraid of natural childbirth and think that dilation of the cervix is a very painful experience. When delivery is approaching, the intervals between abdominal contractions will become shorter and shorter. When the cervix is dilated by one or two fingers, the contractions will become more and more frequent, basically occurring every ten minutes. However, as the cervix becomes larger, the pain will become more intense, usually occurring every few seconds as delivery is approaching. The husband can learn some methods to relieve labor pain and reduce his wife's suffering. Method 1 to relieve labor pain: hot compress Microwaving a cloth bag filled with bran for a few minutes and placing it on your back can indeed help relieve the pain of labor caused by contractions. The bran bags will retain heat for an hour or more. Ask your midwife where you can buy bran bags. Alternatively, you can use a water bottle filled with hot (not boiling) water, wrap it carefully in a towel, and place it on your back. Don’t forget that massage also provides heat. Have someone give you a back massage, which can warm the skin on your back and stimulate your body to produce natural pain-relieving substances. As your baby's head passes through the birth canal, place a soft, warm flannel on your perineum (between the back of the vagina and the rectum) to help relieve the feeling of the birth canal being stretched. Method 2 to relieve labor pain: breathing Focusing on your breathing is a great way to get through each contraction. Take a deep breath at the beginning of the contraction, and as you exhale, relax your body. Then breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, keeping the muscles in your mouth and cheeks relaxed. Don't worry too much about how deep your breaths are, just keep a good rhythm. Breathe in through your nose and exhale softly through your mouth, repeating this process. Try to focus on your breathing as each contraction begins to intensify and tapers off. When the contraction ends, relax Method 3 to relieve labor pain: rest The best way to prepare yourself for pain in the early stages of labor is to rest and conserve your energy. Lie down on your bed or in a chair and make yourself as comfortable as possible. You can stuff pillows and cushions around your body, drink warm, sweet drinks, listen to your favorite music, or watch TV, and get some rest! If you don't run around and exhaust yourself in the early stages of labor, you'll find it much easier to cope with painful contractions. Method 4 to relieve labor pain: changing posture Unless you are extremely tired, try not to lie in bed when you start to feel regular contractions and labor pains. If you lie down the whole time, it will slow down your labor. The longer your labor, the more tired you will be. Stay upright and choose any position that makes you most comfortable: you can stand up and lean against the bed or your husband; you can also kneel down and lean against the seat of a chair; or kneel on one knee and lift the other leg up, which can increase the pelvic space and make it easier for the baby to be born; you can also get on all fours and lie on the ground, which can relieve back pain. Sit in a chair, then stand up and walk around. Try rocking your hips back and forth as much as possible, this really gets your baby moving! Method 5 to relieve labor pain: massage Tell your birth companion where you would like the massage to take place. You may like to massage the bottom of your back during contractions, or massage your shoulders to relax you between contractions. Tell him to massage slowly. If his massage is too intense and you feel panicky, it won't be relaxing. His pressure should be firm and steady to stimulate your body to produce endorphins, the hormones that make you feel good and make the massage really work. Method 6 to relieve labor pain: being cared for Research results show that when a woman gives birth, she will give birth faster and easier if there is someone close to her to comfort and accompany her than when she does not receive such care. So choose the person who accompanies you carefully - someone who will not panic, who believes that you can have a successful and smooth delivery, and who can deal confidently with medical staff on your behalf. This person can be your husband, or it can be someone else, such as your sister, mother, or your best friend. If the hospital allows, you may want to choose two people to stay with you. But you should know that some hospitals may not allow birth companionship. Some hospitals are unwilling to have two people accompany the delivery room at the same time because the delivery room is small. This is something you need to discuss with your doctor and write down your decision in a notebook before your due date. Method 7 to relieve labor pain: water birth Giving birth in water can make contractions less painful, just as taking a bath can help relieve stomach or backaches. Two important studies have found that the use of birthing pools during childbirth can significantly reduce the use of pain medication during labor. First-time mothers who spent time in water giving birth used significantly less narcotic analgesia and fewer epidurals than women whose labor was entirely on dry land. The same was true for women giving birth to their second child. Method 8 to relieve labor pain: professional skills A kind, competent midwife will continually tell you what is happening during labor. She will help you if you want to use natural pain relief to cope with the contractions, and should also support you if you choose an epidural. If you don't develop a good rapport with the midwife assigned to you by the hospital, ask the labour ward manager or senior midwife to assign you another one. You won't offend anyone because of this. Maybe the midwife you can't get along with also finds you difficult to deal with! Changing midwives may be a win-win situation for everyone. |
