Can a racket-shaped placenta be delivered naturally?

Most pregnant women who choose cesarean section do so because of malposition of the fetus, because a normal birth with malposition of the fetus may cause dystocia. The placenta is an important organ when a woman is pregnant. If there is a problem with the placenta, it will directly affect the healthy growth of the baby. However, the shape of the placenta is different for every woman during pregnancy. If the placenta is shaped like a racket, can a normal birth be performed?

What is a racket placenta?

In fact, the so-called racket-shaped placenta, literally means a placenta that is shaped like a racket. If we use a more professional term, it means that the umbilical cord is attached to the edge of the placenta, shaped like a racket, which is called a racket-shaped placenta. A normal placenta is round or oval, with the umbilical cord attached to the fetal surface of the placenta, between the edge and the center.

In the case of a call, the occurrence of a racket-shaped placenta is relatively rare, and it can be said to occur once in a thousand years. However, now that this claim has been made, there must be such a situation. However, we should also distinguish between velamentous placenta and racket-shaped placenta, because the umbilical cord of both is attached to the edge of the placenta, but the umbilical cord of racket-shaped placenta is attached to the edge of the placenta, while the umbilical cord of velamentous placenta is attached to the fetal membrane.

The harm of racket-shaped placenta to the fetus

Once an expectant mother finds that she has a racket-shaped placenta, she will know that it is an abnormality of the umbilical cord attachment, which generally does not affect the blood supply to the placenta. If the ultrasound examination finds no other abnormalities, the expectant mother does not need to worry too much. However, if bleeding symptoms occur, you should go to the hospital immediately.

Can a racket-shaped placenta be delivered naturally?

Then some expectant mothers asked, if they have racket-shaped placenta, can they give birth naturally? In fact, this is the key point of racket-shaped placenta. During delivery, the attachment of the umbilical cord edge generally does not affect the life of the mother and fetus and is discovered during postpartum placental examination. However, if the umbilical cord attachment point is just at the lower edge of the placenta near the cervix, it may be compressed by the fetal presenting part, causing fetal distress or even death.

Therefore, in daily life, expectant mothers should rest in bed on their left side, pay attention to fetal movements, and have regular check-ups. Especially when approaching delivery, you should observe the changes in the expectant mother and the fetus.
