Nose bleeding during pregnancy

Nose bleeding during pregnancy

Some friends who are pregnant will find that there is blood in their snot and worry about whether there is something wrong with their health. In fact, for this kind of situation, you can first check the health of your nose, such as whether the nose is dry or injured, etc. If there is nothing abnormal in the examination, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time to find out the cause of the blood.

1. Why is there always blood in the nose after pregnancy?

Nosebleeds in pregnant women usually make family members worry. In fact, the common causes of nosebleeds in pregnant women are deviated nasal septum, dry air, local irritation and trauma, etc.

Pregnant women's bodies secrete a large amount of progesterone, which causes blood vessels to dilate and become congested. At the same time, the blood volume of pregnant women is higher than that of non-pregnant women, and the human nasal mucosa is rich in blood vessels and the blood vessel walls are relatively thin, so it is easy to rupture and cause nosebleeds. Especially when pregnant women get up after a night's sleep, change their body position or blow their nose, they are more likely to suffer from nose bleeding.

In addition, pregnant women are also prone to nosebleeds in the following situations: trauma to the nose and sinus, fractures, surgery, skull base fractures, etc., irritation or damage to the nasal mucosa; picking the nose, severe coughing, sneezing, forceful nose changes, foreign objects in the nasal cavity, etc.; inflammation, infection, such as acute and chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, dry rhinitis, atrophic rhinitis and specific infections; hypertension, such as persistent hypertension, granulomatous nephritis, chronic nephritis, arteriosclerosis, etc., can all lead to temporary increase in arterial blood pressure and cause nosebleeds.

2. What is nose bleeding during pregnancy?

Nosebleeds during pregnancy are a common condition in life. The common site of nosebleeds in pregnant women is the mucosal vascular area in the anterior and inferior part of the nasal septum, clinically known as the Nissl area. This area is rich in blood vessels and is superficial. During pregnancy, due to the increase in estrogen levels in the body, the mucosa in the Nissl area swells, and the blood vessels dilate and become congested, making nosebleeds more likely to occur. Generally, occasional small amounts of nasal bleeding during pregnancy will not cause serious effects on the body. After the emotions are stabilized and local compression or stimulation of blood vessels contraction, the bleeding will often stop on its own after a few minutes. There is no need to take medicine or injections for treatment.

3. Countermeasures for nosebleeds during pregnancy

Countermeasures: Once a pregnant mother has nose bleeding, she should lie on her back quickly, press the base of the nose with the thumb and index finger for 5-10 minutes, and apply a cold, wet towel to the forehead or nose, which can usually stop the bleeding. During pregnancy, you can eat more foods rich in vitamin C and E, such as green vegetables, red beans, lean meat, milk, eggs, etc., which can enhance the elasticity of blood vessels. In general, nose bleeding will not cause anemia. If the pregnant mother has severe bleeding, she should use progesterone drugs reasonably under the guidance of a doctor to reduce the stimulation of estrogen on the nasal mucosa and eliminate the cause.
