Oxytocin for pain and natural childbirth

Oxytocin for pain and natural childbirth

For pregnant mothers, giving birth is a big event. Many pregnant mothers will consider some delivery issues in the late pregnancy. Many hospitals now recommend that mothers give birth naturally, but for some people, oxytocin is used. Then many mothers will ask: What is the difference between oxytocin pain relief and natural childbirth? Let’s find out below!

What is Oxytocin

Oxytocin is a pituitary neurohormone, which is actually what is commonly known as the "labor-inducing injection." It is a method that doctors use to induce the birth of a baby after diagnosis when mothers give birth prematurely or late. For women, it can trigger uterine contractions during childbirth, stimulate milk secretion, and establish a mother-child bond through caressing between mother and child. In addition, it can reduce the levels of stress hormones such as adrenaline in the human body to lower blood pressure.

The difference between oxytocin pain and natural childbirth:

In fact, both childbirth using oxytocin and natural childbirth will be painful, because oxytocin also causes uterine contractions, thereby artificially controlling the time of delivery. The pain level is the same as the pain during natural childbirth, but the situation of each mother is different, and the feelings will also be different. Oxytocin is not a pain-free injection, and it is impossible to have the effect of no pain during childbirth after using it.

Oxytocin Side Effects:

If oxytocin or oxytocin is overused, if the mother's fetus is in an abnormal position or the pelvis is narrow, the use of oxytocin at this time may cause uterine rupture, or improper use may cause fetal intrauterine hypoxia, or have the opposite effect. So mothers should not urge doctors to use oxytocin in order to avoid pain, which may lead to terrible consequences.
