What to do if milk lumps hurt

Many women will encounter various problems during breastfeeding. Some women are particularly prone to milk clots after giving birth, and milk clots may be accompanied by symptoms of pain. Such a situation may have an impact on women's body and life, so timely measures should be taken to relieve and treat it. So what should women do if they experience milk lumps and pain during breastfeeding?

1. The most common factor of nipple pain is improper sucking by the baby. When the baby sucks the nipple, he does not put enough of the areola into his mouth, but only holds the top of the nipple. Repeatedly doing this will cause nipple pain. When the baby sucks, the mother feels a stabbing pain in the nipple, which may be caused by nipple fissures. The causes of nipple fissures include the baby's inability to suckle, applying alcohol or soap on the mother's nipple, or the baby's oral motor dysfunction.

2. It is recommended that mothers should choose a comfortable position before breastfeeding, apply a hot and wet towel to the areola and breasts for three to five minutes, and massage the breasts to stimulate the milk ejection reaction. First feed with the part that hurts less and be careful to put most of the nipple and areola into the baby's mouth. Also pay attention to changing the baby's feeding position to reduce the stimulation of attracting the nipple. If there are other reasons to stop breastfeeding, the mother should use her index finger to gently press the baby's lower jaw, and the baby will automatically spit out the nipple. Never pull it forcefully, as this will damage the nipple.

3. Breast lumps are a common clinical manifestation of breast diseases. Many diseases can manifest as breast lumps, each with different characteristics. Breast lumps can be treated with external Chinese medicine, which directly acts on specific parts of the breast, allowing the drug to be more fully absorbed and the drug effect to be more lasting.
