Prenatal non-invasive fetal paternity test

Prenatal non-invasive fetal paternity test

Minimally invasive DNA testing is a new method nowadays. Minimally invasive fetal DNA testing can detect the relationship between two people through the method of pregnant women's amniotic fluid, and the child can be tested in the mother's belly to see whether it is the biological parent. So what is the basic principle of minimally invasive fetal DNA testing?

Basic principles of minimally invasive fetal DNA identification

The basic principle of minimally invasive DNA identification is very simple, which is to obtain the fetus's DNA from the mother's blood and compare it with the hypothetical father's DNA.

When the genetic father of the fetus is unknown, under the premise of ensuring the safety and health of mother and child, the evaluation is usually carried out by obtaining the fetus's DNA from a small amount of amniotic fluid sample of the pregnant woman and comparing it with the DNA of the father and mother. It is necessary to provide samples of the fetus, the mother and the suspected father. At present, we have adopted a minimally invasive prenatal fetal DNA identification technology. We only need to collect peripheral blood from pregnant women (after 7 weeks of pregnancy), obtain the scattered fetal DNA in the blood and compare it with the DNA of the parents for verification and analysis, and obtain accurate assessment results that are completely consistent with the test results after the fetus is born.

Minimally invasive fetal DNA testing (the safest at this stage) can be performed from 6 weeks of pregnancy until the birth of the child. 8 ml of venous blood is extracted from the pregnant woman, and 5 ml of blood from the father is sufficient. The cost of the assessment varies from 6,000 yuan to 15,000 yuan.

The basic principle is that the fetus obtains nutrients from the pregnant mother through the umbilical cord, and also transmits the fetal DNA to the pregnant mother's blood through the umbilical cord. Minimally invasive fetal DNA identification obtains the DNA dispersed by the fetus in the venous blood of the pregnant mother to verify with the presumed father whether parent-child communication exists.

We know that pregnant women who want to do fetal DNA testing usually choose to collect the fetus's amniotic fluid for paternity testing. Collecting paternity testing requires doctors to use a long needle to collect the fetus's amniotic fluid through the pregnant woman's abdomen under B-ultrasound detection. Pregnant women are worried that they will accidentally hurt the fetus. According to experts, "If the method is improper or the technology is not good, it will affect the normal growth and development of the fetus, and in serious cases it will cause fetal deformity or miscarriage." Hearing the doctor say this, pregnant women became nervous and afraid of paternity testing. Fortunately, there is a new minimally invasive DNA identification method that can perform paternity testing by collecting venous blood from pregnant women. It is not an invasive sampling method and will not cause harm to the fetus. Moreover, the results of minimally invasive DNA forensic identification based on the venous blood test of pregnant women are consistent with the results after the child is born. Therefore, this is why pregnant women want to choose minimally invasive DNA testing for paternity testing during pregnancy. Minimally invasive DNA testing is a minimally invasive sampling method, so it only requires peripheral blood from the expectant mother. Collecting samples is painless, has no risk of infection, and does not cause miscarriage, thus ensuring the safety of the baby. The assessment time is relatively long and can be done when the pregnant woman has reached 10 weeks of pregnancy until the baby is born. The number of structural domains tested is large and the accuracy is high. If the pregnancy period is between 10 weeks and 12 weeks (inclusive), 13,000 domains will be tested; if the pregnancy period is more than 12 weeks, 6,500 domains will be tested.

Is minimally invasive prenatal DNA testing harmful?

With the development of medical research, the technology of prenatal fetal DNA identification is becoming more and more sophisticated. At present, this kind of assessment needs to be carried out in a local regular hospital or reliable testing center. However, this kind of test may have a certain impact on the fetus, so it is necessary to consult in advance and make necessary preparations to avoid accidents.

First of all, we should know that prenatal DNA testing requires the fetus to be at least eight weeks old, and requires 10ml of maternal blood and 5ml of father's blood. Because the level of each hospital for this kind of assessment is different, and the consumption power of each region is also different, it is recommended that if you want to do this kind of DNA testing, it is best to go to a reliable hospital, which is safer and the cost ranges from several thousand to 10,000 yuan. The blood of a pregnant woman contains the DNA of the fetus. Through certain effective methods, the DNA data of the fetus can be tested. In this way, when it is compared with the DNA data of the father, it can be determined whether the fetus and the father have parent-child communication. At present, this technology is still relatively mature.

However, this type of DNA testing is not so common after all, so many people are not very familiar with it and do not know whether this type of testing will have a certain impact on the fetus. I am sure everyone has heard of amniocentesis, but amniocentesis may also cause a series of negative effects such as fetal infection and miscarriage. Minimally invasive DNA testing is very convenient and its safety is further improved. So what do we need to do before doing minimally invasive prenatal DNA testing?

First of all, we must consult a reliable central testing center in advance to understand the entire process of minimally invasive DNA testing, as well as the relevant procedures that need to be applied for, possible adverse effects, etc. Only after asking clearly can we apply for minimally invasive DNA testing, and we must arrange the evaluation time and the fetal development week in advance.

The next step is to wait for the identification center to approve the application, and then submit the sample. At this time, it is best for pregnant women to draw blood at a reliable hospital under the supervision of professional staff. After acceptance, the blood sample must be sent to the testing center in time.

After the assessment is completed, you will pay the fee immediately. This type of assessment is not a nationwide unified price. The price may vary slightly in each region. In addition, generally after the report is completed, a report notice may be issued within 15 working days. If you need to expedite it, you may incur additional charges.

Because in real life, there may be disputes over the custody of illegitimate children, property disputes and inheritance disputes, so DNA testing must be used to determine the genetic patterns between alleles and whether the biological parents are related. Therefore, DNA testing is protected and recognized by laws and regulations in China.
