What does enhanced pelvic CT scan examine?

What does enhanced pelvic CT scan examine?

Enhanced CT examination is a relatively common examination method. If a woman has gynecological diseases, suspected pelvic inflammatory disease or pelvic effusion, or uterine lesions, urinary stones, etc., a pelvic enhanced CT examination can be performed. When conducting this examination, you must understand some precautions. CT examination will have certain radiation effects, so you must pay attention to good protection. Let us learn about it.

What does enhanced pelvic CT scan examine?

Pelvic enhanced CT can detect any substantial lesions in the abdominal and pelvic cavity, including intestinal obstruction, intestinal tumors, intestinal torsion, appendicitis, foreign bodies, urinary stones and tumors, cystitis and tumors, uterine and cervical masses, adnexal tumors (cysts, cystadenomas, teratomas), etc.

It is recommended that you rest in the lounge for 15 minutes after the examination before leaving the Medical Imaging Department to prevent allergic reactions. When you return home, you need to change clothes and take a shower to remove radioactive contamination. Drink more tea to promote metabolism and excretion.

What should I pay attention to during CT examination?

During CT examination, we should try to avoid unnecessary radiation damage. The best protection methods are:

1. Tell the doctor the exact location of the discomfort to avoid unnecessary radiation doses;

2. Use appropriate coverings to cover sensitive parts that do not need to be exposed. The parts of the human body that are more sensitive to radiation include the thyroid gland, gonads, etc. Children in particular should be covered when undergoing the above examinations, and this can be requested before the examination begins;

3. During the examination, cooperate with the doctor and technician's examination requirements and do not move around to avoid causing serious image artifacts and requiring another examination.

4. Try to avoid multiple CT examinations in a short period of time. If it is necessary for diagnosis, explain the situation to the doctor and take necessary covering measures for protection.

Precautions for CT examination

1. Before the CT scan, it is best to consult the CT room to see what preparations need to be made.

2. During pregnancy, abdominal CT scans should be done with caution. When examining other parts of the body, certain protective measures should be taken for the abdomen to prevent X-rays from affecting the fetus.

3. No other contrast examinations should be performed within one week before the abdominal examination, especially barium contrast imaging of the gastrointestinal tract, to avoid artifacts caused by residual contrast agent in the intestine, which will affect the quality of the CT image and lead to misdiagnosis. Before doing a CT scan, you should first perform an abdominal X-ray to see whether the contrast agent has been completely excreted.

4. Before examining the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, various laboratory tests, abdominal X-rays, and ultrasound examinations should be performed first.

5. Before kidney examination, pyelography and B-ultrasound examination should be performed.

6. Before chest examination, a chest X-ray should be taken.

7. Before examining the spine, take anteroposterior, lateral, and oblique photographs of the spine.

8. During abdominal examination, negative or positive contrast agents should be routinely taken orally to fill the gastrointestinal tract. Negative contrast agents should be used when stones are considered. The amount and method of contrast agent used vary depending on the examination site. When taken in divided doses, the interval time is short in the upper abdomen and long in the lower abdomen.
