What to do if the vaginal wall bulges after a normal birth

Vaginal wall prolapse refers to bulging of the anterior vaginal wall. Women who choose to give birth naturally have a chance of suffering from this disease. Vaginal wall prolapse may have no symptoms in mild cases, but in severe cases, there may be incomplete urination and urine leakage when working, coughing, etc., which has a great impact on normal life. After giving birth naturally and breastfeeding a child, the presence of vaginal wall bulge is really unexpected. So, what should you do if your vaginal wall prolapses after a normal birth? Let’s take a look at the solution below.

Why does the vaginal wall bulge after a normal birth?

Vaginal delivery is a natural physiological process. Most women can give birth smoothly, but some women will experience symptoms of anterior and posterior vaginal wall bulging after normal delivery. These symptoms can affect women's quality of life, and in severe cases may even endanger their physical health.

The anterior and posterior walls of the vagina are mainly supported by soft tissues such as ligaments and fascia. During delivery, due to the large fetus, long labor process, long-term downward force of the mother, early physical activity and weight-bearing after delivery, or long-term constipation, chronic cough and congenital developmental abnormalities, bulging of the anterior and posterior vaginal walls are likely to occur after delivery. Once it occurs, there are no obvious discomfort symptoms in mild cases, but severe cases can affect women's quality of life.

The dangers of posterior vaginal wall prolapse

1. Weak constitution, emaciation, sinking of qi in the middle, or chronic enteritis and long-term diarrhea, empty abdominal cavity, resulting in the uterus falling and the vaginal wall bulging. Sometimes it is accompanied by prolapse of the anus and hemorrhoids.

2. Birth injury: due to the large fetus, the perineal tear was not sutured in time, resulting in the external opening of the vagina being too large, causing the vaginal wall to relax. Of course the anterior vaginal wall can bulge. Severe cases may lead to uterine prolapse and cystocele.

3. Long-term constipation, sitting on the toilet or squatting for too long, excessive abdominal force, and increased abdominal pressure can also cause bulging of the anterior vaginal wall.

How to treat vaginal bulge

1. Mild bulging of the anterior and posterior vaginal walls does not cause any discomfort and is only found during examination. We can usually perform pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation training on our own, namely anal levator training, which is to hold your breath and contract the pelvic floor muscles, which is equivalent to stopping urination. Do rehabilitation training twice a day for ten to fifteen minutes each time.

2. For severe prolapse of the anterior and posterior vaginal walls, in addition to pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation training on your own, it is recommended to go to the hospital for rehabilitation treatment 42 days after delivery. Currently, many hospitals have pelvic floor rehabilitation equipment. If the symptoms are severe and affect the quality of life, surgical repair of the anterior or posterior vaginal wall can be performed.
