Why are breasts swollen?

Why are breasts swollen?

I believe that many women during adolescence, lactation or pregnancy have experienced breast swelling. In fact, this is a normal physiological change, which generally does not have a major impact on the patient's physical and mental health. However, if this physiological phenomenon exceeds a certain range or fails to recover within the prescribed time, it may become the fuse for breast tissue hyperplasia. So what causes breast swelling?

The breast is the target organ of endocrine hormones, which means that under normal circumstances, that is, during endocrine changes in the menstrual cycle, breast tissue will be affected by endocrine hormones and undergo physiological changes. The breast will undergo cyclical proliferation and involution during the menstrual cycle, which manifests as fullness and mild pain in the breast before menstruation. The breast pain will be reduced or disappear after menstruation. This physiological change is a normal phenomenon for women of childbearing age, but the degree of breast pain varies from person to person.

If this physiological proliferation exceeds a certain range or is incomplete, it will cause breast tissue hyperplasia over time, which is now generally referred to as lobular hyperplasia of the breast. It can be seen from this that lobular hyperplasia is a benign proliferation and degeneration of breast tissue. In essence, it is neither inflammation nor a tumor. But clinically speaking, it is one of the common causes of breast pain in women. It is more common in young and middle-aged women. There is thickening of breast tissue in the upper outer part of the breast, which is soft and tough. Sometimes a lump with unclear boundaries is formed, but it rarely adheres to the surface skin and there is no enlarged axillary lymph nodes. Most of the time, it is bilateral. The pain can radiate to the armpits, shoulders, etc. The pain often eases after menstruation.

The treatment of lobular hyperplasia is mainly symptomatic treatment. Chinese medicine can be used to regulate and adjust ovarian function, and regular follow-up is required. Currently, there are many drugs for the treatment of lobular hyperplasia, and they are relatively disordered. Most of them are Chinese patent medicines. Many hospitals also have self-prepared drugs for treatment. Generally, they have certain effects, but they cannot cure the disease. After stopping the drugs, breast pain symptoms will reappear. In recent years, the use of tamoxifen (tamoxifen) and other drugs to treat lobular hyperplasia has shown certain efficacy, especially for women over middle age, but the long-term efficacy remains to be observed.

This is normal.

There is a period of time like this before each menstrual period. Menstruation is your monthly physiological cycle and also a form of excretion of metabolism.

Your breast pain is a physiological sign. Don't worry.

You can stretch your arms upwards and feel the breasts to see if there are lumps and whether they are the same size. Observe any changes before and after the menstrual period. If there are lumps and they persist after the menstrual period, it is breast hyperplasia and you can go to the hospital for a breast examination. Generally, Chinese herbal medicine or Western medicine can be used for anti-inflammatory and swelling treatment. At the same time, you can use instrument electrotherapy and towels for hot compresses. Of course, it is also very important to relax, relieve stress, and try to maintain a good attitude.
