What to do if you have cholecystitis during lactation

Lactation is a stage that every mother must go through when giving birth to a baby. It is also an important stage for the baby's growth and development, because during the lactation period, the mother will use breast milk to feed the child. Therefore, medications should be used with caution during lactation, as almost all drugs can be transferred from plasma to breast milk. So when a breastfeeding mother suddenly develops cholecystitis, she is afraid of harming her baby's body if she takes medicine, but she feels very uncomfortable if she doesn't take medicine. It's really a dilemma. What should she do?

When the symptoms are not obvious, for the sake of the child, you can stop treatment and just let the child drink plenty of water and eat light liquid foods that are high in carbohydrates, low in fat and low in cholesterol, such as rice soup, lotus root powder, soy milk, honey water, almond tea, red date soup, lotus seed soup, longan soup, fruit juice, vegetable juice, egg white water, etc. The taste should be as light as possible, and processed foods and high-sugar foods should be avoided. High-fat, fried and irritating foods such as fatty pork, lamb, chicken, eggs, milk, etc.

You can also take some Chinese patent medicines, which have less impact on the baby, such as Jindan tablets, which are anti-inflammatory and choleretic, and are used for acute and chronic cholecystitis; Qinggan Lidan oral liquid, which clears damp-heat from the liver and gallbladder, and is mainly used to treat symptoms such as poor appetite, flank pain, fatigue, yellow urine, greasy tongue coating, stringy pulse, liver depression and qi stagnation, and unclear damp-heat from the liver and gallbladder.

However, when the symptoms are obvious and the patient is in great pain, the patient should stop breastfeeding and receive drug treatment. You can take some anti-inflammatory and choleretic drugs for treatment, such as anti-inflammatory and choleretic tablets, cephalosporin or penicillin anti-inflammatory drugs, but drug treatment cannot completely cure the disease. If the disease recurs, surgical treatment should be considered. Surgical removal of the gallbladder is a radical cure that can remove the lesion and avoid complications such as gallstones or gallbladder cancer.

I hope the above article will be helpful to breastfeeding mothers and can solve the problem. I wish the mothers a speedy recovery.

(1) Depending on symptoms and tolerance to fat, strictly control intake to 20 grams per day and gradually transition to a moderate limit of 40 grams per day. Generally, you should not consume too much fat, and it is recommended to cook with vegetable oil.

(2) On the basis of meeting the needs of patients, the total heat energy should not be too high. Obese and overweight patients should lose weight to reach their ideal weight. Heat energy is supplied according to the principles of a low-calorie diet.

(3) Limit cholesterol intake. Cholesterol intake should be less than 300 mg per day, and animal fat and high-cholesterol foods such as offal, fish roe, egg yolks, etc. should be limited. You can choose fish, lean meat, egg white, etc.

(4) Protein intake should be based on normal requirements or slightly lower, with 50 to 70 grams of protein provided daily being appropriate. However, protein foods low in fat should be selected, such as skim milk, egg white, marine fish, etc.

(5) Pay attention to vitamin intake, especially the supplementation of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Vitamin K is effective in controlling bleeding caused by certain types of jaundice.
