How many fetal movements are there during pregnancy

When a pregnant woman is about eight weeks pregnant, the fetus gradually takes on a human shape. At this time, the fetus's limbs have grown out and will wriggle in the abdomen. This is the initial fetal movement. At this time, it is relatively weak. As the fetus gradually grows, the fetal movement will become more obvious. For example, when there is rolling movement, opening the mouth to breathe, the mother will feel it.

Feeling of fetal movement

Twitching, twisting, rolling, punching and kicking, belly jumping, bubbles coming out, swimming like a fish... the baby's movements in the belly are ever-changing, so the pregnant mother's feelings are also varied. No matter what the feeling is, the strongest is the joy and emotion of giving birth to life.

Why monitor fetal movement?

Except for occasional B-ultrasound examinations, pregnant mothers have no way of understanding the condition of the baby living in the womb through their eyes. As a way for the baby to convey information, fetal movement is an important channel for pregnant mothers to understand the health of the fetus. Just like a mother judges her child’s needs and problems through facial expressions, pregnant mothers need to monitor the safety of the baby in the womb through fetal movements. If fetal movement is abnormal, it is likely that the fetus is suffering from intrauterine hypoxia. The fetal heart rate will disappear within 24 hours after the fetal movement decreases and disappears. Therefore, by relying on the mother's self-monitoring and keeping track of the changes in fetal movements every day, she can always know whether the baby is safe in the womb and detect problems early.

Therefore, even if you are busy with work and family every day, gently touch your belly once a day to check for fetal movement. If you encounter situations such as "no fetal movement for half a day" or "suddenly stopped moving", do not ignore it and go to the hospital immediately.

How to count fetal movements

The three-time counting method every day: count the fetal movements once at three fixed times every day: morning, noon, and evening, and do this for one hour each time. Then add the numbers counted 3 times and multiply by 4. This is the number of fetal movements your baby has made in 12 hours.

Daily counting method: Count once every day one hour before going to bed. The daily testing time should be fixed. Then record the daily numbers and plot them as a curve.

It should be noted that the strength and frequency of fetal movements vary greatly from person to person. Some have it more than 100 times in 12 hours, while others only 30 to 40 times. But as long as the fetal movement is regular and rhythmic, and the changing curve is not large, it means that the fetal development is normal. When counting fetal movements, it is best for pregnant mothers to lie on their left side in a quiet environment, concentrate their minds, and be calm to ensure that the measured data is accurate.
