What is the cause of reverse menstrual flow?

This is a pathological phenomenon of abnormal menstruation. Over time, it will cause menstrual cycle disorders or anemia in girls.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, retrograde menstruation is mainly caused by blood heat and qi reflux , which causes menstrual blood to overflow instead of flowing downward through the Chong meridian. The reason why the blood is hot and the qi is reversed is related to factors such as liver meridian heat stagnation and lung and kidney yin deficiency.

For example, if one is usually impatient and prone to sulking, this may lead to stagnation of liver qi, poor qi movement, and excessive liver fire; or one may be often weak and have yin deficiency, and be worried and anxious, and think too much, which may lead to excessive heart fire; or one may eat too much spicy food such as pepper and ginger, which may lead to internal heat accumulation and damage the blood, causing the blood to flow upward. When menstruation is about to happen or has already occurred, internal heat forces the menstrual blood to flow backwards, causing retrograde menstruation.
