Cervix: Dangers lurking everywhere

"The cervix is ​​the most common site for malignant tumors in women, and the damage it causes to women's health and life is second only to breast cancer," said Professor Lang Jinghe, Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Every year, there are 131,500 new cases of cervical cancer in my country, accounting for one-third of the world's total number of cases. About 50,000 people die from cervical cancer each year, and the incidence population is concentrated in women aged 40-60. Cervical cancer used to be more common among middle-aged and elderly women, but now there is a clear trend of earlier onset.

Many diseases of the cervix will affect pregnancy and pregnancy: cervical erosion will make conception difficult and prone to bleeding and lacerations during delivery; cervical tumors will worsen during pregnancy; bacterial and viral infections of the cervix can also be transmitted to the baby. Among these, the disease with the highest incidence rate is cervical erosion. Cervical erosion is closely related to sexual life. Due to the barrier function of the hymen, unmarried women's vagina is generally not invaded by foreign objects, so cervical erosion rarely occurs. Once a couple has sexual intercourse, the vagina is in a relatively "open" state, making it easy for foreign pathogens to invade.

For women of childbearing age, whether they have children or not, they should have a cervical cancer prevention check once a year. The entire process from the appearance of abnormal cervical cells to the development of cervical cancer takes more than 10 years, and every examination during this period can detect such changes, thereby eliminating the tumor before it grows.

In daily life, if you find bleeding after sex, or if the color, odor, or properties of your vaginal discharge are abnormal, you need to see a doctor promptly. Because this means that there may be a problem with the reproductive tract or cervix.

Professor Lang Jinghe suggested that women over 30 should participate in various screenings such as cervical smear tests to detect the signs of the disease early. "No woman should be allowed to die from this completely preventable disease."

Ligaments: Inherently fragile

Compared with men, women are more likely to strain ligaments in joints such as the knee and ankle. Professor Zhu Lan, chief physician of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said that this is because women's hips are wider, which makes the ligaments bear too much force, so women's ligaments are inherently much more fragile than men's. Secondly, women’s motor reactions are generally slower than men’s. When danger occurs, they cannot be relieved in time, making them more susceptible to injury.

The most common sprain for women during sports is ankle sprain. Repeated sprains can cause poor local blood circulation in the ankle joint, decreased tissue elasticity, and even lead to serious consequences such as avulsion fracture of the fibula and complete rupture of the lateral ligament. Once a ligament is torn, it can take months to heal.

Therefore, you might as well take the following methods: do full-body stretching exercises after getting up every day, which can wake up the muscles and soften the tendons, ligaments and joints; the hormone levels in women's bodies change after pregnancy, causing relaxation of joint ligaments, so women should arrange their work and life reasonably during pregnancy, try to do less or avoid heavy physical labor, and do not cause unnecessary strenuous activities, which will make the ligaments that are already in an extraordinary period worse; women have poor adaptability to activities with high intensity of exercise, which can easily cause muscle strain and ligament strain, so they should pay attention to warm-up and gradual progress during exercise; choose various sports activities that mainly involve leg activities, such as table tennis, badminton, swimming, skating, aerobics, etc., which can enhance the leg's jumping ability and enhance the flexibility of muscles and ligaments.
