Can I breastfeed while lying down?

When breastfeeding or feeding, pregnant women can feed by lying on their side, but not lying flat on their back. In addition, it is best for the baby to have a certain tilt angle when feeding, which is conducive to the smooth entry of milk into the baby's body and can effectively avoid the problem of choking on milk. Before breastfeeding, you can massage your breasts so that milk secretion will be smoother and avoid excessive pulling on the nipples due to the baby's strong sucking.

Posture and method of breastfeeding: Generally, the baby should be held up for feeding. After feeding, the baby should be held upright with the head resting on the mother's shoulder. The baby's back should be gently patted to expel the air swallowed into the stomach to avoid vomiting milk. When the child is full and falls asleep, the child's head should be slightly tilted to the right to avoid aspiration pneumonia caused by inhaling milk into the lungs during vomiting. Letting a child sleep with a nipple in his mouth is easy to cause him to swallow air, which can cause vomiting and abdominal pain. Moreover, if both mother and child fall asleep, the child may suffocate and be crushed. Therefore, this is the worst habit. Before each breastfeeding, the mother should wash her hands, wipe the nipples with warm water, and change the underwear frequently. Express a few drops of milk before feeding. Clean the nipples after feeding to reduce nipple lacerations.

There are four breastfeeding positions: cradle, olive (embracing), cross, and side-lying. Cradle pose: This is the most traditional pose. Support your baby's head with the inside of one arm and place your other hand on your breast and areola. Putting a cushion under your baby will make breastfeeding easier. Cross position: Compared with the cradle position, the baby's body is tilted slightly so that the angle of the baby's mouth will change when the baby is feeding, making it easier to suck milk.

During breastfeeding, do not drink alcohol or use skin care products containing alkali or alcohol. In addition, it is best to use warm water when cleaning the nipples, and do not use other skin cleansing products to clean the breasts. After breastfeeding, do not pull out the nipple forcibly, as this can easily cause skin tears. When you pull it out forcibly, the baby will still maintain the sucking action, which can easily cause choking due to sudden inhalation of air.
