Is a 3 cm uterine fibroid serious?

The uterus is a relatively important reproductive organ in the female body. However, with the ever-increasing pace of life, many women always focus their lives on work and sometimes ignore their physical health, which makes them particularly prone to some gynecological diseases. Among them, uterine fibroids are caused by changes in hormones in women's bodies. Although uterine fibroids are benign tumors, they can cause irregular menstruation and infertility in women to a large extent. Let's find out whether a 3 cm uterine fibroid is serious.

Is a 3 cm uterine fibroid serious?

Generally speaking, fibroids larger than 5.0 cm are considered serious and require prompt surgical removal. However, the specific treatment plan needs to be determined based on individual age, clinical manifestations and endocrine conditions. In general, if the fibroid is larger than 3 cm and has a rich blood supply, surgery should be performed as soon as possible.

Western medicine does not have any good treatment options for fibroids smaller than five centimeters, so observation is generally recommended, which is a passive wait. After the fibroid grows to five centimeters, surgical treatment is recommended. Surgery can cause greater damage and easily lead to pelvic adhesions. In addition, the recurrence rate after simply removing the fibroid is very high. According to statistics, more than 70% of cases will recur within a short period of time.

There are many treatments for uterine fibroids, including hormone therapy, surgical treatment, interventional treatment, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment, etc. So what is the best method to use?

In fact, conservative treatment and surgery, Western medicine and Chinese medicine each have their own strengths. When choosing treatment methods and means, you should judge based on the following circumstances:

One is the age factor. It is generally believed that the formation of uterine fibroids is closely related to excess sex hormones. Therefore, if the patient is over 40-50 years old and has begun to experience menopause, and has no obvious clinical symptoms such as excessive bleeding and pain, expectant management of the perimenopause period can be adopted.

This method does not require any medication or other surgical treatment. Gynecological internal examination and B-ultrasound examination are performed every 3 months. If the tumor does not grow rapidly and the bleeding and pain symptoms do not worsen, you can "expect" the uterine fibroids to gradually shrink as you age and your sex hormone levels decrease.

The second factor is the size of the tumor. If the size of the fibroid is equivalent to a pregnant uterus of one and a half months (5cm) or more, surgery should generally be considered. In addition, if the fibroids grow rapidly, protrude into the abdominal cavity and tend to twist, they should also be surgically removed. Of course, other indications such as severe anemia, heart disease, and general condition should also be considered when deciding whether to undergo surgery.

Warm reminder: uterine fibroids will grow and seriously affect the patient's health. It is recommended that patients adopt a treatment plan that suits them as early as possible to avoid greater harm.

Although uterine fibroids are very harmful to women's bodies, not all women need surgical treatment. Doctors usually make a judgment based on the size of the fibroids and whether the woman has given birth before. Therefore, female friends must pay more attention to their physical condition. If they have irregular menstruation and increased leucorrhea, they should seek medical attention in time. In addition, they should also pay attention to ensuring good personal hygiene in their daily lives.
