What is non-menstrual bleeding?

Generally, mature women will have vaginal bleeding once a month, which usually lasts for five to seven days. This is menstruation, which is a normal physiological phenomenon, so there is no need to worry. However, some women are not menstruating but still experience vaginal bleeding. This should be a cause of concern because it may be a sign of a medical condition. So, what is the common cause of bleeding during non-menstrual period?

1. Bleeding related to trauma

Bleeding caused by trauma, such as bleeding after sexual intercourse, rupture of the hymen, rupture of the vaginal wall, and rupture of the posterior fornix can all cause bleeding.

2. Endocrine-related bleeding

Improper use of contraceptives can cause bleeding. Functional uterine bleeding, postmenopausal uterine bleeding and neonatal vaginal bleeding are the main causes.

3. Bleeding related to systemic diseases

Aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, liver disease, and disseminated intravascular coagulation caused by gynecological and obstetric diseases are all prone to bleeding.

4. Tumor-related bleeding

Non-menstrual bleeding in middle-aged and older women is usually caused by uterine fibroids, and irregular bleeding in menopausal women is mainly caused by cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and functional ovarian tumors. In addition, the young girl experienced irregular bleeding, the main cause of which was botryoidal sarcoma.

5. Bleeding related to inflammation

Diseases such as vulvar ulcers and urethral caruncle are prone to non-menstrual bleeding, such as vaginal ulcers, vaginitis, Trichomonas vaginitis, and senile vaginitis. The latter two have a higher chance of bleeding. In addition, cervical diseases such as cervical ulcers, cervicitis, cervical erosion, and cervical polyps are also prone to bleeding. Symptoms of uterine bleeding are most likely to occur in acute and chronic endometritis, chronic myometritis, and acute and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.

When vaginal bleeding occurs outside of the menstrual period, you must take it seriously, because it may be a sign of a physical disorder. Except for those caused by trauma, you must see a doctor promptly, find out the cause, and receive timely treatment. Early treatment can lead to early recovery. Do not be afraid to seek medical treatment and do not delay, otherwise the condition will become more serious.
