The whole process of NT examination

Whether the baby is born healthy or not is closely related to many details during pregnancy. In order to make the future baby healthier, pregnant women must actively go for prenatal check-ups so that they can promptly detect abnormalities in the fetus and take timely measures to solve them. The NT test is one of the many pregnancy test items. How long does the NT test take? What is the NT test process?

The NT examination refers to a color Doppler ultrasound examination between 11 and 13 weeks of pregnancy, which accurately measures the thickness of the nuchal translucency NT of the fetus. The ultrasound examination at this time includes:

1. Re-evaluate the gestational age so that it is more accurate.

2. Evaluate the fetal anatomical structure. Ultrasound in the late early pregnancy may also reveal abnormalities in the fetal structure.

3. Assessment of fetal marker genes, accurate measurement of nt based on early pregnancy aneuploidy screening strategy. It can be accurately measured by transabdominal and transvaginal color Doppler ultrasonography.

4. Evaluation of bilateral uterine artery blood: uterine artery blood is an excellent indicator for evaluating uterine embryo blood circulation.

The NT examination can also be regarded as a fetal malformation screening. It uses the B-ultrasound method to test the thickness of the transparent zone on the fetal neck to determine whether the fetal growth and development is normal. The length of the examination process has a lot to do with the position of the fetus. If the fetus is in a suitable position and the zona pellucida can be easily detected, the procedure can be completed in about ten minutes.

But if the fetus is in the wrong position, the zona pellucida cannot be seen. It is necessary to stimulate fetal activity until the zona pellucida can be detected, and then the fetus will be born later. Some pregnant women need to toss and turn several times, trying various methods to stimulate fetal activity. Such situations are very rare, and most pregnant women can still pass it in one go.

The timing of the NT test should be mastered. It is best to conduct the test at 12 weeks of pregnancy. Because the zona pellucida exists for a very short time, it only appears at 10 weeks of pregnancy and disappears at 14 weeks. If you don't manage your time well, you may miss the opportunity to check this item.
