Is it normal to have blood clots after medical abortion?

Generally speaking, the gestational sac will be discharged a few hours after taking the abortion pill. At this time, the amount of bleeding is relatively large, which will cause certain abdominal pain. As the gestational sac is discharged, this abdominal pain will gradually ease. Be alert to incomplete medical abortion. During this period, you must strengthen care. If vaginal bleeding persists for a long time, you must go to the hospital for examination in time.

Is it normal to have blood clots after medical abortion?

Generally, the gestational sac will come out a few hours after taking the medicine. The amount of bleeding will usually be more than the usual menstrual amount. There will be slight abdominal pain before the gestational sac comes out, and the degree is comparable to usual dysmenorrhea. But if there is persistent pain in the abdomen, it is abnormal. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for examination, treatment and observation in time.

Incomplete medical abortion

If more than two weeks have passed after the medical abortion, it is recommended to have a follow-up examination to see whether the gestational sac tissue has been completely eliminated. If not, a second uterine curettage is required. After the uterine curettage, vaginal bleeding will stop within 10 days.

Many women know too little about the pros and cons of medical abortion, and they often risk their lives to have medical abortion. Maybe they did not see the gestational sac tissue being removed at the beginning. After the fourth day, their abdomen began to feel severe pain, and there was a lot of vaginal bleeding. If the gestational sac tissue is not completely removed, it may cause incomplete miscarriage.

Precautions for medical abortion

1. Before medical abortion

Before medical abortion, an ultrasound examination should be performed to rule out ectopic pregnancy and understand the size and location of the embryonic sac to help determine whether medical abortion is suitable. Medical abortion must be within 49 days of amenorrhea and the woman must be under 40 years old.

The patient is in good physical condition and has no contraindications. The so-called contraindications include: having or currently suffering from severe systemic diseases, liver and kidney dysfunction, allergic constitution, heart disease, hypertension, anemia, asthma, glaucoma, pruritus during pregnancy, etc. Medical abortion should be performed in a hospital with emergency treatment, curettage and blood transfusion conditions, and more observation should be carried out to prevent accidents; strictly following the doctor's orders and returning for follow-up visits on time are the precautions before medical abortion that cannot be ignored.

2. After medical abortion

Hygiene and contraception after medical abortion should be taken more seriously. During medical abortion, retrograde infection is prone to occur due to new trauma to the uterus and vaginal bleeding, so attention should be paid to local hygiene. It is better to take a shower instead of a tub bath to prevent sewage from entering the vagina and causing infection. No sexual intercourse for one month.

Rest for 1 to 2 weeks after medical abortion: gradually increase the amount of activity. Do not engage in heavy physical labor or work in cold water within one month after an abortion to avoid reduced resistance and inducing other diseases. Observe the bleeding situation. If vaginal bleeding lasts for more than one week after abortion, or is even accompanied by abnormal symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, fever, turbid and smelly leucorrhea, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time.

After a medical abortion, it usually takes about ten days for the bleeding to stop. If irregular heavy bleeding occurs or the bleeding cannot be stopped in the period after the operation, it is very likely caused by incomplete abortion. After the medical abortion, it is recommended to check again about two weeks later to see whether the abortion is complete.
