What causes the endometrium to grow too fast?

The endometrium is mainly a layer of protective tissue covering the inner wall of the uterus. It is worth noting that the thickness of the endometrium is not fixed but changes periodically. Since the thickness of a woman's endometrium grows relatively quickly, people are concerned that it may be related to cancer. So, what is the reason for the rapid growth of the endometrium? Let’s take a closer look at it below.

1. Proliferative phase: The endometrium gradually proliferates and thickens, manifested as:

(1) Endometrial cell hyperplasia

(2) Glandular hyperplasia

(3) Blood vessels proliferate and thicken to ensure blood supply to the endometrial glands

2. Secretory phase: further thickening of the endometrium

(1) Increased volume of endometrial cells

(2) The gland secretes large amounts of glycogen-containing mucin.

(3) The blood vessels are bent and the blood flow increases. Significance: Prepares conditions for the implantation of the fertilized egg (sperm enters the uterus → fallopian tube ← fertilized egg → grows in the uterus)

3. Early menstrual cycle: If fertilization is not achieved, the glands shrink and dry up → the endometrium is in a state of exhaustion

4. During the menstrual cycle: endometrial vasospasm → endometrial ischemia and necrosis → exfoliation and bleeding, and endometrial polyps are the most common pathological changes. Any mass that grows in the cervix, cervical canal, or the uterine cavity attached to the uterine wall by a thin pedicle can be clinically called a uterine polyp. Endometrial polyps are caused by excessive proliferation of the endometrium and can occur at any age. They are a very common type of localized endometrial tumor that protrudes into the uterine cavity and is smooth and fleshy in hardness. The pedicles vary in length, with the older ones protruding outside the cervical os and some having shorter pedicles. Smaller polyps generally have no clinical symptoms. Laser treatment can be used, and pathological examination should be conducted. If it becomes cancerous, radical removal is required.

The above is an introduction to the reasons for the rapid growth of the endometrium. I hope it will be helpful for women to understand. There are many factors that cause the endometrium to grow too fast, but they are not necessarily related to cancer. If diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia, intervention is needed as soon as possible and effective measures must be taken for treatment to avoid causing more serious damage to our health.
