Triple-negative breast cancer is a type of breast disease and a type of malignant tumor. Triple-negative breast cancer is theoretically responsive to DNA-toxic drugs and therefore also to radiotherapy.

"Triple-negative" breast cancer refers specifically to breast cancer patients whose estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and human epidermal growth factor-2 are all negative. Statistics show that this type of breast cancer is more common in young patients. The tumor is highly invasive, prone to local recurrence and distant metastasis, and has a poor prognosis, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 15%.

"Triple-negative" breast cancer is ineffective against endocrine therapy and molecular targeted therapy, and treatment mainly relies on chemotherapy. Compared with other types of breast cancer, "triple-negative" breast cancer is more sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy; but if it only receives routine standard treatment, its prognosis is still very poor, with relatively low recurrence-free survival and overall survival rates.
