What to do if you have a corpus luteum cyst in early pregnancy

Pregnancy is a major event in a woman's life, but many situations often arise. The mother may not know it at the beginning of the pregnancy until she experiences morning sickness, when she will notice that she is pregnant. Therefore, mothers may not pay much attention to their diet and lifestyle habits during that time, which may cause some troubles. So what should you do if you have a corpus luteum cyst in early pregnancy?

The most common simple ovarian cyst (especially movable ones) is the corpus luteum cyst, which often disappears automatically at the end of pregnancy or after delivery. During ultrasound scans during pregnancy, ovarian cysts are often unexpectedly discovered. The diameter is generally less than 6 cm, with 3 to 4 cm being the most common. Most of these cysts are benign, and doctors usually tell patients that it is okay and that they don't need to pay attention to it unless there are special circumstances.

Ovarian cysts are benign, but as the pregnant uterus grows, the stem of the ovarian cyst may twist, causing severe abdominal pain. If you unfortunately encounter this situation, you will have to undergo emergency surgery to remove the ovarian cyst to avoid shock due to pain or peritonitis. Because there is a 2% to 5% chance that the tumor may be malignant, it is best to undergo surgery during the 2nd to 3rd month of pregnancy. The most common simple ovarian cyst (especially movable ones) is the corpus luteum cyst, which often disappears automatically at the end of pregnancy or after delivery. Surgery is not necessarily required. Surgery is only required when torsion causes severe pain.

Generally, there is no need to be too nervous about corpus luteum cysts in early pregnancy. If they are still relatively small, they do not need treatment because they will disappear on their own later. If the cyst grows larger and causes pain, surgery should be performed. It is divided into benign and malignant types, and depending on the situation, the doctor will recommend whether to remove it or not.
