What to do if you have abdominal pain during pregnancy

Many women will encounter this problem of abdominal cramps after pregnancy, but they don’t understand the reasons at all, so they will make some wrong choices. In fact, abdominal pain in the early stages of pregnancy is very normal, and the belly will feel a little bloated. Most women don’t care, but if this situation still occurs in the middle of pregnancy, many women will be nervous. So is abdominal cramps after pregnancy normal?

Around 4 months of pregnancy, the uterus enlarges and the round ligament of the uterus is stretched, and many expectant mothers will feel some abdominal pain. This type of pain is mostly located on one or both sides of the uterus in the lower abdomen, and is referred pain, dull pain or lack thereof. The pain becomes more obvious when walking a long distance or changing body position. Expectant mothers don’t need to worry, the symptoms can be relieved by resting in bed more.

In the second half of pregnancy, the baby gradually grows and the pressure in the expectant mother's abdominal cavity also increases. If a woman's esophageal hiatus (the hiatus through which the esophagus connects to the stomach) widens, she may develop a hiatal hernia, in which case the abdominal pain is often accompanied by symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, chest pain, acid reflux, and hiccups. Experts recommend: Eat small meals frequently, and eat less sweet, spicy, or sticky food; do not lie flat on the bed or lie too low after meals, and try to bend over as little as possible to reduce acid reflux; keep your bowels open.

1. Common diseases that cause abdominal pain in early pregnancy include various types of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy, all of which manifest as lower abdominal pain accompanied by a feeling of falling, and accompanied by a small amount of vaginal bleeding. You should go to the hospital for examination and diagnosis in time.

2. Threatened premature birth in the late pregnancy may cause more frequent lower abdominal pain. If pregnant women with high blood pressure or trauma experience persistent abdominal pain, abdominal hardening, and varying amounts of vaginal bleeding, they should consider whether it is caused by early placental abruption. This disease can endanger the safety of mother and child, and they should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment immediately.

3. If an ovarian tumor is found during examination before or during pregnancy, and persistent lower abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting suddenly occur after changing body position or urinating or defecating, it may be torsion of the ovarian tumor pedicle. You should go to the hospital immediately for observation and treatment. If the pain cannot be relieved, open abdominal surgery to remove the tumor is required.

4. If a woman has abdominal pain during her due date, she must go to the hospital for a check-up and take appropriate medication to protect the safety of the fetus and avoid affecting the family.

The above is a brief introduction to abdominal cramps after pregnancy. For the sake of the baby’s health, female friends should do appropriate exercise during pregnancy, avoid having sex, avoid lifting heavy objects, eat small meals frequently, and drink plenty of water to replenish water. If the pain is severe and accompanied by symptoms of persistent bleeding, you must seek medical attention immediately and receive early diagnosis and treatment!
