What are the types of emergency contraceptive pills?

There are many friends in life who may have an unexpected pregnancy if they are not careful. In order to prevent this kind of unexpected pregnancy, they will take some emergency contraceptive measures. There are many types of contraceptives, so how should we choose? Next, we will introduce the types of emergency contraceptives.

1. What is emergency contraception?

Emergency contraceptive pills are an "emergency contraceptive" measure used after unprotected sex or when you realize that contraceptive measures have failed (condom breakage, slippage, missed contraceptive pills, etc.) to prevent unwanted pregnancy. There are two main types of emergency contraceptive pills. One is mifepristone tablets, with the trade name "Funel". Its advantage is that only one tablet needs to be taken within 72 hours after sexual intercourse, and the contraceptive effect is over 99%. Low-dose mifepristone is a new drug approved by the State Drug Control Administration for emergency contraception in the early 21st century. The other is levonorgestrel tablets, with the trade names "Yuting" and "Anting". Its characteristic is that two tablets are taken within 72 hours after sexual intercourse, with an interval of 12 hours. The contraceptive effect is over 98%. It has been used for emergency contraception since the 1990s.

2. Please don’t take emergency contraceptive pills randomly

Emergency contraception refers to a contraceptive method used to prevent pregnancy within a period of time after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. Drug contraception is the most commonly used method.

Female friends can consider taking emergency contraceptive drugs if they suffer accidental injuries or have unprotected sex for other reasons, or if contraceptive failure occurs, such as condom breakage, slippage, or incorrect calculation of the safe period. After excluding pregnancy, healthy women of childbearing age should use the drug within 72-120 hours after sexual intercourse, but the failure rate is often higher if it is used after 72 hours.

Above we have learned about the types of emergency contraceptive pills, which have certain effects on contraception. However, remember not to take long-term contraceptive pills, as they can cause great harm to your body. Everyone must use them in moderation and be careful to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
