What to do if your uterus is retroverted during pregnancy

Pregnancy and the birth of a new life is a very happy thing for you and your entire family. However, while we are happy, we must also understand that pregnancy will also encounter many unexpected situations, which will catch first-time mothers off guard. The most common is a retroverted uterus. But don’t be anxious or afraid, I will tell you what to do if you have a retroverted uterus during pregnancy? This allows you to have a comprehensive understanding and avoid being overwhelmed.

The position of the uterus in the pelvic cavity can be divided into anterior uterus, median uterus and posterior uterus. When the uterus falls backwards towards the rectum, it is called retroverted uterus. There are two types of retroverted uterus: retroverted uterus and retroflexed uterus. When the longitudinal axis of the uterus remains unchanged and the entire uterus tilts backwards, it is called a retroverted uterus. When the uterus is tilted backwards and the junction of the uterine body and the cervix forms an acute angle, it is called a retroverted and retroflexed uterus. The former is more common, the latter is less common. Common causes are ligament relaxation, pelvic diaphragm and broad ligament bottom damage caused by multiple deliveries.

For patients with symptomatic retroverted uterus, the key to treatment is to reposition the uterus. Commonly used methods of uterine reduction include bimanual reduction method, triple-manual reduction method, cervical clamp traction reduction method, chest-knee supine position reduction method, and surgical reduction method. After manual reduction, the patient is required to do chest-knee position exercises 1-2 times a day after emptying the bowels and bladder, each time for 10-15 minutes. This is crucial to consolidate the effect of uterine reduction. Chest-knee position exercises can also prevent the occurrence of posterior displacement of the uterus after delivery, but they must be performed half a month after delivery. If manual reduction is unsuccessful, surgical reduction can be used. The surgical method is mainly to shorten the round ligament and change the uterus into an anteverted and anteflexed position.

Self-treatment 1. Prone exercise</B> (1) Lift both upper limbs straight backwards alternately; (2) Lift both lower limbs at the same time. 2. Elbow-knee position (elbows and knees on the ground) exercise (1) Lie face down with the chest forward; (2) Straighten the lower limbs backward and upward alternately; (3) Crawl forward and backward alternately with the knees; (4) Stand on the toes, straighten the knees, and raise the hips. 3. Hand-knee position (hands and knees on the ground) exercise (1) Straighten both lower limbs alternately and move in different directions; (2) Bend the elbows and bend the chest forward and down to the ground; (3) Raise the right upper limb and left lower limb at the same time, and then raise the left upper limb and right lower limb at the same time; (4) Stand on the toes, straighten both knees, and raise the hips. 4. Hand-foot position (hands and feet on the ground) exercise (1) Sit back on the heels, then return to the original position; (2) Bend the knees of both lower limbs forward alternately. 5. Kneeling exercise: Kneel with the body upright. Raise both arms and then bend the body forward while keeping the arms straight and the hands on the ground. Be careful to prevent retroverted uterus after delivery. Most retroverted uteruses can be prevented. The key is to allow the mother to get enough rest after delivery so that the pelvic tissue can recover in time. Pay special attention to your lying posture during rest and avoid lying on your back for long periods of time. Side-lying, supine and prone positions should be rotated alternately. Starting from the third day after delivery, you can do some health exercises for the abdomen, limbs and pelvic floor muscles in bed, which will help postpartum recovery. After miscarriage or due to other reasons, pelvic infection and adhesion formation will promote the formation of retroverted uterus, so it should be treated actively as soon as possible. Strictly implement postpartum examinations and promptly correct any poor recovery of the uterus after delivery.

What to do if the uterus is retroverted during pregnancy? If the condition is not that serious, your doctor will tell you during your prenatal check-up, and you can get effective improvements by doing the exercises provided above. If the situation is serious, don't worry too much. Today's advanced medical technology can help you reposition your uterus.
