Introduction to the calculation method of gestational period

After pregnancy, the issue that female friends are more concerned about is when the baby will be born. The mother’s feelings are understandable, and she hopes to see her baby as soon as possible. So how is the gestational period calculated? The expected date of delivery can be calculated based on the duration of the menstrual period. Let us introduce the specific calculation method in detail.

1. Calculation method based on the last menstrual period: Subtract 3 from the month of the last menstrual period (add 9 if this number is less than 3) or add 9 to the month, and add 7 to the day to get the expected date of delivery. For example: if the last menstrual period started on March 5, the expected date of delivery would be December 12 of the same year.

2. Calculated based on the date of fertilization: If the date of fertilization is known, the expected date of delivery is 38 weeks (266 days) from that date. Those who use basal body temperature know the ovulation day and can calculate the fertilization day. This is more accurate than calculating your due date from the start of your last menstrual period.

3. Estimation based on uterine size: Determine the number of weeks of pregnancy based on the height of the uterine fundus.

4. Ultrasonic (B-ultrasound) detection method: This is a more accurate method for people who are uncertain about the start date of their last menstrual period. Since the size of the gestational sac, the length from the fetal head to the buttocks, and the diameter between the parietal bones on both sides of the fetal head can be calculated, the number of weeks of pregnancy and the expected date of delivery can be calculated based on these values.

I hope that the above introduction to the calculation method of gestational period will be of some help to female friends. The estimation of expected date of delivery will be of some help for future childbirth. You can prepare for delivery in advance and avoid being in a hurry when the time comes.
