Can adenomyosis cause miscarriage?

Some of you may have heard of the symptoms of adenomyosis, but there are definitely not many people who really understand adenomyosis. After all, adenomyosis is not a common symptom, and there are few people around us who have symptoms like adenomyosis. However, due to the great harm of adenomyosis, it is still necessary for us to learn more about adenomyosis. Below we will introduce whether adenomyosis will cause miscarriage.

Why does one develop adenomyosis? What exactly is adenomyosis? Questions like these are often raised by my patients and friends during my many years of clinical practice. After years of clinical research and summary, I believe that the main causes of uterine adenomyoma are the following:

1. Congenital posterior uterus. Some young, unmarried or even childless patients suffer from adenomyosis because of a retroverted uterus, which results in poor menstrual discharge. Because there is a large amount of endometrial tissue in the menstrual blood, it stays in the uterus for a long time. If accompanied by dysmenorrhea, it causes spasmodic contraction of the uterine myometrium, increases intrauterine pressure, and the endometrium may be ectopic to the uterine myometrium.

2. Iatrogenic causes:

1. Curettage. Curettage can destroy the basal layer of the endometrium. The endometrial tissue can invade into the myometrium along the damaged part of the basal layer. During the monthly menstrual cycle, it widely invades and multiplies in the myometrium. This functional endometrial tissue can also cause bleeding, forming many bleeding spots in the myometrium.

2. The IUD is placed for a long time, and the ring is embedded in the myometrium of the uterus, and the endometrial tissue is also brought into the myometrium to form uterine adenomyoma.

3. Caesarean section. During a caesarean section, it is very easy to bring endometrial tissue to the myometrium and other places, and some may even form chocolate cysts at the incision site.

The above is explained from the perspective of the etiology of adenomyosis. Now I will explain from the perspective of the medical pathology of adenomyosis, why do we get adenomyosis? What is adenomyosis? In this way, the majority of patients and friends will understand it more clearly: Adenomyosis is the normal endometrium ectopic to the myometrium, forming symptoms such as hyperplasia, edema, and bleeding during the menstrual period, and is the main cause of dysmenorrhea. After the ectopic endometrium infiltrates into the myometrium, it can cause bleeding in the myometrium and multiply in large numbers during each menstruation. The structure of the uterine myometrium is dense. Extensive bleeding of the ectopic endometrium in the myometrium increases the tension of the myometrium and causes spasmodic contraction of the uterine smooth muscle, which can cause dysmenorrhea. The ectopic endometrial tissue cyclically moves and infiltrates and reproduces every month, causing the symptoms of dysmenorrhea to worsen month by month, the myometrium to thicken significantly, and the uterus to become larger and larger. When a woman is resting in bed during dysmenorrhea, the retained menstrual blood cannot be discharged for a long time. Due to gravity, the ectopic endometrial tissue easily invades the uterine fundus and posterior wall of the uterus, forming most cases of endometriosis in these two parts. In contrast, most cases of endometriosis are formed in the anterior wall of the uterus during cesarean section. Dysmenorrhea will become more severe as the condition worsens. The pain is unbearable and I can't sleep at night. Strong painkillers are needed to relieve the symptoms. Although chocolate cysts formed by ectopic endometrial tissue on the ovaries can also cause dysmenorrhea, the degree of dysmenorrhea is much milder than that of adenomyosis. Patients with chocolate cysts have increased tension in the cysts during menstruation and persistent dull pain on the affected side, but it is not very serious.

In the above article, we introduced a relatively rare symptom, which is adenomyosis. We know that adenomyosis not only easily brings many troubles to patients but also may cause miscarriage in patients, so we must pay attention to this symptom.
