Researchers point out that even in Western societies, women do not consume enough calcium and vitamin D. The recommended daily intake of vitamin D is 400 international units, and the recommended amount of calcium for adult women is: 1000 mg of calcium per day for women aged 19 to 50; 1200 mg per day for women over 51. But only one in five people get the recommended amounts of calcium and vitamin D in their diet.

Researchers recommend that calcium and vitamin D are best obtained through food. For example, eating four servings of low-fat dairy products a day is a very good choice. In addition, eating cheese or fortified orange juice is also good.
