Why do pregnant women often go to the toilet?

In fact, during pregnancy, a woman's body has to face various changes, and some changes are often difficult for women to accept. Among them, going to the toilet all the time is a pregnancy reaction that most women will face. It is actually a normal reaction for pregnant women to always go to the toilet. There is no need to worry too much, but this will affect the normal life of a pregnant woman to a certain extent. Today you can learn about the reasons why pregnant women always have to go to the toilet.

Female physiological characteristics

The female uterus is located in the center of the pelvic cavity, with the bladder in front and the rectum behind. The uterus may change position depending on the fullness of the bladder and rectum. Under normal circumstances, a person will feel the urge to urinate only when the bladder can store 400 ml of urine. The average person urinates about once every four hours. The more water one drinks, the shorter the urination time will be.

Early pregnancy

When a woman just becomes pregnant, although the size of the uterus has not changed, the progesterone HCG can cause pelvic congestion and occupy most of the space in the pelvic cavity. It also compresses the bladder at the back, causing frequent urination. After 12 weeks of pregnancy, the uterus enters the abdominal cavity and the pressure on the bladder is relieved. Some pregnant women will feel that the symptoms of frequent urination are alleviated, but some pregnant women have no improvement. During my pregnancy, the symptoms of frequent urination became more and more obvious as the gestational weeks progressed, and I could hardly bear it. In the days before giving birth, my husband jokingly advised me to move into the bathroom. The biggest workload every day is to urinate constantly. Sometimes I feel like I can't finish peeing, and sometimes I want to pee again right after I finish peeing, but when I get to the bathroom I can't pee. It's really embarrassing.

Late pregnancy

After 8 months of pregnancy, the fetal head is connected to the pelvis. At this time, the bladder becomes flat because the pregnant uterus or fetal head presses forward. Of course, the urine storage capacity is significantly reduced than that of the non-pregnant period, so the frequency of urination increases, about once every 1-2 hours, or even shorter. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. Do not hold it in and go to the bathroom immediately. In addition, some pregnant women not only have increased urination frequency, but may even experience stress urinary incontinence due to pressure on the bladder by the developing fetus. Another reason for this situation is that the pelvic floor muscles are underdeveloped or under-exercised, or have been injured, resulting in poor supporting function. As the uterus grows, the pelvic floor muscles become soft and are pushed downward, and the supporting, control, contraction and relaxation functions of the pelvic organs are reduced, resulting in urinary incontinence. In very rare severe cases, it may be accompanied by rectal or anal prolapse, vaginal relaxation and prolapse, prolonged labor during delivery, etc., but you don't need to worry too much.

Stress urinary incontinence is also a normal and common physiological phenomenon in late pregnancy. If you engage in activities that increase abdominal pressure, such as laughing, coughing or sneezing, stress urinary incontinence is inevitable.
