What diseases may be caused by irregular menstruation?

1. Premenstrual syndrome

This symptom often occurs within 7-14 days before menstruation, and sometimes continues after menstruation. Some women experience dysmenorrhea or excessive mood swings during menstruation, which is an extremely dangerous signal. Dysmenorrhea and excessive mood swings will seriously affect women's relationships with people around them. This is also the most common problem that every woman must face and solve.

2. Dysmenorrhea

Many women experience dysmenorrhea during menstruation. Although it is not caused by any disease, the pain can be life-threatening once it occurs. Common symptoms include back pain, leg pain, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, etc. This may be the result of excess prostaglandin secretion or uterine contractions.

3. Amenorrhea

Amenorrhea is generally divided into two types: primary amenorrhea and secondary amenorrhea. Primary amenorrhea refers to the absence of menstruation in women over the age of 18 or whose secondary sexual characteristics have matured for more than 2 years. Secondary amenorrhea refers to a condition in which a woman once had regular menstruation but later stopped having menstruation for more than 6 months due to some pathological reason. Irregular menstruation may cause both of these symptoms.

4. Excessive menstrual flow

Excessive or prolonged menstrual bleeding does not fall under the category of normal menstrual bleeding. Not only will it cause severe bleeding problems, but it will also last for more than 7 days. Excessive menstrual flow is often accompanied by symptoms such as blood clots and blood streaks. In severe cases, it may cause hormonal imbalance or uterine fibroids.

5. Endometrial cancer

Endometrial cancer and endometrial growth are often accompanied by abnormal vaginal bleeding. This is a very serious illness, but with proper treatment, the chances of recovery are quite high. If it can be detected and treated in the early stages, the cure rate will be higher. This condition often occurs in women over 50 or with excess estrogen secretion.

6. Uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids grow on the uterine muscle wall and can vary in size. Some women will not have any signs or symptoms, but others will experience heavy and prolonged periods. Uterine fibroids can cause a lower degree of pelvic misalignment, severe vaginal pain during sexual intercourse, and frequent urination. Women who are over 35 or have had multiple pregnancies are at higher risk of developing uterine fibroids.

7. Pelvic inflammatory disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to inflammation of the female pelvic reproductive organs, connective tissue around the uterus, and pelvic peritoneum. One of the symptoms is an unpleasant vaginal odor. It may also be accompanied by irregular menstrual cycles or pain during sexual intercourse. The most common causes of pelvic inflammatory disease are sexually transmitted diseases. If left untreated, it may lead to fallopian tube damage or infertility.
