How to control high blood pressure during pregnancy

A woman's physical condition must remain stable during pregnancy, otherwise any problems with the pregnant woman's body will immediately affect the development of the baby in her belly. Many pregnant women have pregnancy-induced hypertension. Once pregnancy-induced hypertension occurs, certain effective measures need to be taken immediately to control the high blood pressure. So how do you control high blood pressure during pregnancy?

1. Control energy and weight

Excessive energy intake during pregnancy can easily lead to obesity, which is a major risk source of hypertension during pregnancy. Therefore, during pregnancy, you should control the amount of food appropriately. It is not about eating as much as you can. The amount of food you eat should be adjusted based on the normal weight gain during pregnancy. Especially pregnant mothers who were overweight before pregnancy should try to avoid or not eat candy, snacks, sweet drinks, fried foods and high-fat foods. It is advisable that the weight of pregnant women should not exceed 12 kg during the entire pregnancy.

2. Reduce the intake of saturated fatty acids

The energy ratio of food fat should be controlled at around 25%, and the maximum should not exceed 30%. In addition, the saturated fatty acids should be reduced, and the intake of unsaturated fat should be increased relatively. That is, eat less animal fat and replace it with cooking oil, using about 20 grams of cooking oil per day. In this way, not only can the essential fatty acids needed for fetal development be provided, but also the production of prostaglandins can be increased, which is conducive to the elimination of unnecessary fat.

3. Avoid insufficient protein intake

Poultry and freshwater fish protein can regulate or reduce blood pressure, and soybean protein can protect cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, eating more freshwater fish, poultry and soy foods can improve blood pressure during pregnancy. However, pregnant women with abnormal renal function must control their protein intake to avoid increasing the pressure on renal function.

4. Ensure calcium intake

The Chinese Society of Nutrition recommends that the daily calcium intake in the early, middle and late stages of pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding should be 800 mg, 1000 mg, 1200 mg, and 1200 mg respectively. Pregnant mothers should ensure that they drink milk every day. Milk and dairy products are rich and easily digestible high-quality protein. They are excellent foods for calcium and zinc supplementation. Low-calorie or defatted dairy products are preferred. Studies have shown that increasing dairy product intake during pregnancy can reduce the occurrence of pregnancy-related hypertension. Pregnant mothers should also eat more soybeans and bean products as well as seafood products. Soybeans and bean products are not only high-quality protein, but also foods rich in calcium and should be taken every day.

5. Salt intake should be appropriate

If salt intake is too much, it is easy to cause hypokalemia, which will increase the blood pressure of pregnant women, so the salt intake must be controlled.

It is generally recommended that pregnant mothers should consume less than 5 grams of salt per day to prevent hypertension during pregnancy. Don’t consume too much light soy sauce. 6 ml of light soy sauce is equal to 1 gram of salt. If you are already accustomed to the salty taste, you can use part of potassium salt instead of acetate, which can improve the taste of low-salt cooking to a certain extent. You can also use onions, ginger, garlic and other seasonings.
