Can I eat seaweed during menstruation?

Can I eat seaweed during menstruation?

I believe everyone is very familiar with seaweed. We often eat seaweed, but we have not actually had a deep understanding of it. In fact, seaweed not only tastes good but also has high therapeutic value. Eating seaweed regularly can help clear away heat and promote diuresis. Seaweed can treat and assist in the treatment of many diseases, so seaweed is deeply loved by people.

Nori can improve our immune function and protect our heart. Nori has an anti-coagulant effect on our blood. Eating nori regularly can also help lower blood lipids.

1. Impact on immune function

Porphyra polysaccharide can significantly enhance cellular immunity and humoral immunity, and promote lymphocyte transformation. The incorporation of 3H-TdR is 2.02 times that of the control group, and the incorporation of 3H-UR is 1.28 times that of the control group. Intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide for 7 consecutive days in mice significantly increased the content of hemolysin in serum, and its half hemolytic value (HC50) was 3.64 times that of the control group, indicating that it has an enhancing effect on humoral immunity. In addition, laver polysaccharides can enhance the phagocytic function of mouse peritoneal macrophages, increase the weight of immune organs, counteract spleen atrophy caused by cyclophosphamide, and also have a significant agglutination effect on rat red blood cells.

2. Effects on the heart

Duodenal administration of laver polysaccharide to rats (50 mg/kg) has the effect of slowing down the heart rate, but enhancing the myocardial contractility. This effect appears 15 minutes after administration and lasts for about 40 minutes.

3. Effects on the blood system

Porphyra polysaccharides have obvious anticoagulant effects both in vivo and in vitro, and can significantly reduce blood rheology indicators such as whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, whole blood reduced viscosity and hematocrit in rabbits. But it has an increasing effect on erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Oral administration of 36 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide to rabbits can significantly prolong the specific thrombosis time (CTFT) and fibrin thrombosis time (TFT), shorten the thrombus length, and reduce the wet and dry weight of the thrombus, but has no significant effect on the water content of the thrombus. Oral administration of 56 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide to guinea pigs can significantly shorten the lysosomal lysis time (ELT) and enhance the activity of plasmin.

4. Lipid-lowering effect

Intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide into mice has a preventive effect on the formation of hypercholesterolemia caused by intraperitoneal injection of 0.5 ml of 75% egg yolk emulsion. Oral administration of 75 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide for 8 consecutive days can significantly reduce the serum total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) levels in rats with hyperlipidemia model caused by eating a high-fat and high-cholesterol diet. Feeding Wistar male rats with a diet containing 10% Porphyra haitanensis can also significantly reduce the serum total cholesterol level of rats eating a high-fat diet.

5. Anti-tumor effect

Intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide has an inhibitory effect on mouse sarcoma S180, with an inhibition rate of 47.55%. The inhibition rate of seaweed on Ehrlich cancer is 53.2%.

6. Anti-aging effect

Oral administration of 0.2% laver polysaccharide can significantly prolong the average lifespan of fruit flies, increase their flying percentage, and significantly reduce the lipofuscin content of hatched fruit flies and 20-day-old fruit flies; intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg can reduce the lipofuscin content in the myocardial tissue of mice by 21.69%, increase the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the brain and liver by 55.65% and 54.69% respectively, and extend the swimming time of mice by 86.41%. In addition, 10 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide had a significant inhibitory effect on the activity of monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) in mouse brain in vitro.

7. Anti-radiation effect

Intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide for 7 consecutive days had a protective effect against irradiation with a total dose of 0.2064C/kg of 60Co γ-rays. [7]

8. Anti-leukocyte count reduction effect

Intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide into mice for 8 consecutive days had a significant antagonistic effect on the leukopenia caused by cyclophosphamide, but had no significant effect on the normal white blood cell count.

9. Hypoglycemic effect

Intraperitoneal injection or oral administration of 50 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide to mice had a significant effect on reducing normal fasting blood sugar. Intraperitoneal injection of 50-300 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide has a significant hypoglycemic effect on the hyperglycemic mouse model caused by alloxan.

10. Anti-liver damage effect

Intraperitoneal injection of 150 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide has a significant antagonistic effect on the increase of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in mice with liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4).

11. Other functions

Intraperitoneal injection of 180 mg/kg of laver polysaccharide in rats had a significant inhibitory effect on the paw swelling caused by 1% carrageenan. The mouse bone marrow micronucleus experiment showed that 15Omy/kg of laver polysaccharide had a significant anti-mutagenic effect. In addition, laver polysaccharides can promote the biosynthesis of serum protein in mice.

Above we introduced what laver is. We know that laver has very high nutritional value. Eating laver regularly can have very good health-preserving effects and health-care functions. Laver can lower blood sugar and blood lipids. In addition, laver also has anti-aging and tumor benefits. However, laver is cold in nature, so it is best to eat less during menstruation.
